of its junk bond department are accused of insider
trading, stock market manipulation and defrauding the
firm’s clients in a massive lawsuit filed with the SEC.
Democratic Presidential candidate Michael S. Dukakis
agrees to Republican Vice President George Bush’s
demand that they limit themselves to two debates with
each other and one between their running mates.
Reports say about a million protesters including Roman Catholic nuns took to the
streets in Rangoon, Burma, to demand democracy and vigilantes beheaded
three people who tried to poison protesters.

Bush was jeered while and Dukakis was heckled by some.
Heavyweight champ Mike Tyson suffers a head injury when the BMW he was
driving skidded into a tree in Catskill, NY. The car belonged to his wife, Robin
Givens. The New York Daily News reports that Tyson told his wife he was going
to kill himself.
John F. Kennedy Jr. is chosen as People Magazine’s “Hunk of the Year.”
Clint Eastwood’s Carmel (CA) restaurant “His Hog’s Breath Inn” reopens after
being shut down by Monterey County health inspectors several weeks ago.

to testify about the case before a grand jury). Holmes died of AIDS on March 13,
1982.
Technology - New Touchtone is rolling out a dial-a-movie service. Just call an
800 number and the movie will be available to you. You’ll need a satellite dish. It
will offer the top 10 rental titles, beamed on a separate channel from AT&T’s
Telstar 303 satellite.
Microsoft ended fiscal 1988 with $590.8 million in revenue. Aided by its near
monopoly in operating systems for IBM-style personal computers, last year,
Microsoft surpassed Lotus Development to become the largest maker of
personal computer software, but the company still lags behind Lotus and Ashton-
Tate in applications software. Microsoft’s current leading applications program,
for both the IBM Pc and for the Apple Macintosh computer, is its word-processing
program - Word.
The FCC approves High Definition Television. The systems will be designed to
have the clarity of movie film and the sound of compact discs. The National
Association of Broadcasters believes such a system won’t be available before
1993.
Passing - Gert Frobe (75) - Best-known for his portrayal of “Goldfinger” in the
1965 James Bond film.
