The Russians say the have launched a new satellite - this one carrying a dog. It’s
six times heavier then the one launched earlier this month. Moscow says it’s
circling the earth every hour and 42 minutes at a height of 937 miles. The dog is
hermetically sealed in a container equipped with air conditioning.
In Gallup Poll - President Eisenhower’s popularity slips ... 57% approve and 27%
disapprove of the job he’s doing. In January of this year, 79% approved of the job
he was doing.
At a gathering of artists in Indianapolis, architect Frank
Lloyd Wright tells the group that Indianapolis is “ugly”
and that Paris, France is his favorite city because it has
resisted skyscrapers.
Passing - William Coffin Coleman (87) - maker of gasoline
lamps and G.I pocket stoves and turned it into a multi-
million dollar business with his Coleman Co. He was fixing
a wire recorder for a friend when he suffered a heart
attack.
In sports - 1100 show-up at transplant ceremonies for the Dodgers in Los
Angeles. President Walter O’Malley, who received a standing oviation told the
crowd “The next time you will be asked to stand will be when your own Duke
Snider hits the first home run for your Dodgers here.”

television star, Bess Myerson has her
husband arrested, charging that he tried to
choke her. She’s the star of “The Big
Payoff.”
The Bob Hope special scheduled for
November 7 on NBC is cancelled because sponsor Timex is miffed that Hope
appeared with Frank Sinatra on a show sponsored by competitor Bulova.

Elvis Presley performs at the Pan-Pacific Auditorium in Los
Angeles. He performed for 50 minutes and sang 18 songs
including “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Jailhouse Rock.” Before the
concert, he was asked to comment about an article in which
Frank Sinatra was attacking rock and roll. “I admire the man,
he has a right to is own opinions. “You can’t knock success.”
A judge approves the contract of actress Noreen
Corcoran (14) who appears in “Bachelor Father”
starring John Forstyth . She’ll be making $350 a
week, subject to periodical options. The judge
directed that 22% of her gross go into government
bonds.
Fortune Magazine says that oilman J. Paul Getty
is the richest man in the world. He is said to be
worth $700 million to a billion dollars.
Dr Joyce Brothers - a contestant on the $64,000
Challenge - ups her winnings this week to $135,000
