Korean War news - American cavalry troops capture the major North Korean port
of Chinnampo in a second parachute assault by 6000 paratroopers across
Communist escape routes north of Pyongyang.

Jolson
(64) dies of a heart attack in his hotel room in
San Francisco. Jolson abruptly left a gin rummy game
to lie down and rest. He asked for a doctor. “Well, this
looks like the end” he said to his friends. Hotel nurse
Anne Murchison told the crooner he would be OK.
“Who are you kidding - I’ve got no pulse” exclaimed
Jolson with a laugh. He then asked his card-playing
friends to pull up some chairs because he had some
stories to tell them. As they assembled- his final
utterance was “I’m going, I’m going.”
In Chicago, Sidney Schiller, a Republican candidate
for the Municipal Court bench has his car stolen. Schiller is certain it was a
Democrat “and a low-life, underhanded crooked on at that.” The car contained
his campaign literature including 500 posters, 2000 auto stickers and 20,000
throwaway cards.
A 10% tax increase goes into effect November 1 for TV set and freezer
manufacturers.
Robert Sprague, president of the Radio Television Manufacturer’s Association
criticizes the FCC for approving the CBS color system. “Television sets cannot
get any picture at all from a CBS color broadcast unless the owner has
purchased an adapter” and “the right kind of color television set simply isn’t here
yet.”
Sheik Fahad, brother of the ruler of Kuwait says his country has a big problem.
Every time somebody drills for water in the thirsty nation, all they find is oil.
Fahad is in the U.S. to learn modern agricultural methods.
In Decatur, IL - Mrs Vera Gibson (38) is jailed for promiscuous kissing. Police say
she created a disturbance by accosting unsuspecting men and kissing them in
downtown Decatur. She was fined $31.00 and failed to pay.
In Dayton, OH a dog is blamed on the death of a 7 year-old boy. Police say Paul
Shaks was playing in the front yard of his home while his mother was attending

his 6-month old sister. Paul decided to wind-up his rope swing to go for a ride
and jump on the swing as it began to twist. His neck got caught between the
unwinding strands. His playmates found him hanging by the twisted strands, but
his dog “Brownie”, a mongrel, kept up his vicious snarls and kept all help away.
His father arrived and drove the dog away - but by then, it was too late.
Irene Castle McLaughlin Enzinger, a 57 year-old
former dancer sues
Ed Sullivan
and his sponsor
for $250 thousand. She charged that a film that
she loaned to Sullivan, showing her dancing with
her late husband, Vernon, was used last year on
“The Toast Of The Town” without her permission.
Defendants named are Sullivan, CBS and Ford
Motor Company.

Phil Rizzuto
, New
York Yankees shortstop,
wins the 1950 MVP award in
the American League.
Rizzuto ended the season
with a .324 batting average
that included 50 extra base hits. Runners-up in the voting
were Billy Goodman of Boston (the season’s batting champ
with a .354 and Larry (Yogi) Berra of New York.
Marries - Errol Flynn (41) “for the third and final time” to
Patrice Wymore (24).
Lana Turner loses her second child - this time in a fall on a polished floor. Turner
has one daughter - Cheryl (7).
