The U.S. calls on the United Nations for more help in Korea.
Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower
releases a
statement of income for the past ten years,
showing he received $888, 303.99 including
$635,00 for all rights to his book “Crusade in
Europe.”
Speaking in New York - Gen Eisenhower said
the Soviet Union has posed a “deadly
challenge” before the United States, its main
target. At the same time, he expressed the
certainty that the free world has the strength to
meet it.
Speaking at the Alamo in San Antonio, Gen.
Eisenhower pledged himself to create such
strength, that the Soviet Union will not dare to create another Korea.
In Illinois, Adlai Stevenson pictured Gen. Eisenhower as a man with “no policy,
no program and no real faith in the future of America.”
The Navy announces it has launched rockets from giant balloons high above the
North Pole, sending them to altitudes of about 40 miles. The Navy says it’s the
greatest height known to have been reached in “these latitudes.”
Korea - Chinese Reds try and fail to drive American and South Korean troops of
Triangle Hill and Sniper Ridge. Also, a United Nations front officer reports that
more than 7,500 Chinese Reds have been killed or wounded in ground action
alone in the week since October 14.

Television news - Debuting this week - “I Married
Joan” starring Jim Backus and Joan Davis. Many
believe it’s NBC-TV’s answer to CBS-TV’s “I Love
Lucy.” The show will air 8pm on Wednesday nights.
Lucy airs Monday nights at 9pm.

NBC-TV’s Gabby Hayes for Puffed Rice
“Arthur Murray’s Dance Party” which has previously aired on ABC and CBS, gets
a new home beginning October 19 on the DuMont television network.
Speaking of “I Love Lucy” - McCreery’s N.Y. department stores now carries Lucy
blouses, dresses, aprons and sweaters and a Desi conga drum. Also, Desi TV
lounging jackets, matching Mr. And Mrs. Pajamas and a “Lucy” doll.
Teleprompter Corp., makers of the cueing device widely used in TV shows, sets
a deal with the RCA Service Co. under which the prompter will be made available
to public speakers throughout the country. The RCA subsidiary will serve as a
rental and servicing agency for the equipment.

special on “What Every Voter Should Know.” It should air
soon on a CBS radio station near you.
