The United Nations orders nearly all its personnel
out of Haiti after it becomes clear that army
commander Lt. Gen Raoul Cedras refused to
resign as promised and tensions keep growing in
the capital of Port Au Prince.
Show of force - President Clinton orders six U.S.
Navy ships to waters off Haiti to enforce the U.N.
trade embargo scheduled to take effect. “The
purpose of these actions is this: to ensure the
safety of Americans in Haiti and to press for the
restoration of democracy there through the
strongest possible enforcement of the sanctions”
said the President.
Somali rebels release Army helicopter pilot Michael Durant with President Clinton
saying the release was a sign his policy is working.
A deranged man goes on a shooting spree at a fitness club near San Diego. Four
are dead and the killer then committed suicide.
Los Angeles - A jury convicts two men accused of attacking trucker Reginald
Denny, whose beating stands out as one of the lasting images of the LA riots last
year. One was convicted of four assaults. Many of the charges were reduced.
Black nationalist leader Nelson Mandela and white President
Frederk de Klerk , former enemies, are awarded the Nobel
Peace Prize.
Budget buster - The House halts construction of the world’s
larges atom smasher against the wishes of President Clinton.
Television news - MTV eliminates the 7pm airing of “Beavis and
Butt-head” due to children concerns and complaints from
parents.
After less than six weeks, Fox pulls the plug on The
Chevy Chase talk show, which bombed critically and in
the ratings.

Disney freezes store orders for the videotape
“Aladdin.” Speculation is that they’re running low on copies. Some 10 million
have been sold since “Aladdin” went on sale September 29.
Music news - Over 10 years - “Friday
Night Videos” - network television’s
longest running video program will leave
the air by November 5. The show
competed with MTV in the early 1980’s
when both cable and music television
were finding their way. The show was
created by Dick Ebersol, who was also
producing “Saturday Night Live.” He
decided to team that show with a late-
night music package and the rest is video pop history.
Lined-up for “MTV Unplugged” in November - Nirvana and Duran Duran.
Guns ‘N Roses settle with band’s ex-drummer Steven Adler for $2.3 million. He
brought suit against the group claiming he was fraudulently removed from the
group and stripped of this partnership interest in the band.

Rap attack - Eazy-E talks a little revenge against former N.W.A group mate Dr.
Dre, who said some not-so-nice things about Eazy recently. You can find what
Eazy has to say about the good doctor in a new single “Real (expletive) G’s.”
University study in Southern California - UC Irvine researchers reveal that a
classical music sonata can temporarily increase intelligence. In the study, 36
college students were given IQ tests after listening to Mozart’s Sonata for Two
Pianos in D Major, as well as after listening to a relaxation tape and sitting in
silence for 10 minutes. All 36 students scored higher after listening to Mozart,
some as many as 9 points.
Radio news - Howard Stern causes a near riot in
mid-town Manhattan for his appearance at a
bookstore to sign his new book “Private Parts.” More
than 10,000 were in the crowd at a Barns & Noble.
