Iraq nationalized holdings of two American oil companies - Exxon and Mobil as a
gesture of support for Egypt and Syria in the Mideast war
Israeli jets bomb Port Said at the Mediterranean entrance to the Suez Canal,
inflicting civilian casualties in the first attack in Egypt since the new Middle East
war began.
Israel admits it has lost the east bank of the Suez Canal to Egypt and faces a
long struggle to recapture it.
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton , who announced last summer they will
seek a divorce, are now attempting to save their nine-year-old marriage. They
were seen dining together in Rome.
Judge says no - Wilt Chamberlain , who jumped from
the Los Angeles Lakers to become player-coach for the
San Diego Conquistadors, loses his hyphenated title.
He’ll be a coach only. He lost the bid due to a Laker
restraining order enjoining Chamberlain from playing this
season with any team but the Lakers.
Hockey great Gordie Howe now has two sons who play
professionally. Both for the Houston Aeros as Mark (18)
is a left wing and Marty (19) is a defenseman.
Television news - Actress Susan St. James is having a
dispute with Universal, and won’t be doing “McMillan and
Wife” for the time being. Or perhaps never again.
