Music news - Def-Jam Records’ Rick Rubin says that
Michael Jackson, owner of the Beatles song catalogue, has
refused to give Def-Jam artists the Beastie Boys the right to
record a new version of the Beatles’ “I’m down.” Rubin said
he was told after Jackson here it, he thought it made a
mockery of the Beatles. But Rubin says “Now that’s
ridiculous. The Beastie Boys make fun of everything! Who
does Michael think he is; to go around protecting people
form a pop song? It’s very disturbing and not cool at all.
He’s acting like a censor.”

It’s announced that a new Star Trek - one set a century ahead of the original will
debut next September. “Star Trek’ creator Gene Roddenberry will serve as

feature a spaceship. “I’m now blue-sky on everything… people might travel by
some means other than a spaceship.”
Joan Rivers’ late night talkshow on Fox debuts. First night guests - Pee Wee
Herman, David Lee Roth and Elton John. Mark Hudson leads the band.
Rona Barrett and her company, Rona Barrett Communications, will produce TV
movies for NBC in conjunction with NBC Productions.
