President Eisenhower is ordered to bed by his doctors because he’s suffering
from a chill.
New shooting erupts on Israel’s borders with Syria and Jordan.
The carrier rocket of the first Soviet satellite, reported missing, finally shows-up
on radar. It’s coming back to earth.
Before Congress - Dr. Edward Teller and another scientist warn Congress to
keep up our present guard against Russia, while redoubling efforts to overtake
her missile-satellite lead. Meanwhile, an attempt to launch America’s first test
satellite - a sphere six inches in diameter weighing six pounds is planned for
next week.
President Eisenhower suffers an artery block in his
brain in what is called a mild brain occlusion. His
speech is affected slightly and shows no other damage.
As a result of the Eisenhower news, the stock market
took a dive - an average loss of $7 per share.
Vice President Nixon declares that President
Eisenhower is “perfectly capable of making any major
decisions.”
President Eisenhower is reported recovering rapidly. His resignation rumor is
spiked “once and for all” by VP Nixon. Later, it’s revealed he’s feeling much
better and may fly to the NATO talks in Paris December 16.
An Air Force Voodoo reconnaissance fighter lands in California in a record
roundtrip east-to-west coast trip of 6 hours, 42 minutes.

Class Curtis Large suffers scalp cuts, a
broken arm and shock after being
sucked-into the air intake of an F-86
Sabre jet fighter plane. Luckily, the pilot
killed the engine.
Sports - Dodgers outfielder Duke Snider
and catcher Roy Campanella take token
cuts in salary when they signed their
1958 contracts for an estimated $42,000
and $36,000 respectively. Vice President
Buzzie Bavasi, who presided over the
formal rites, minimized the salary
reduction, saying “the Dodgers didn’t win
the pennant so the players have to suffer
along with the club.” “Campy had a
miserable year and although Snider had
a fine year, he had to take a cut too,
because we didn’t win,” said Bavasi.
Television news - Dean Martin makes a
guest appearance on the Frank Sinatra
Show this Friday (see ad).
Looks like ABC-TV’s “Sugarfoot” starring
Will Hutchins is a hit. It beat “Name That Tune” and Phil Silvers on CBS and Nat
King Cole and Eddie Fisher over at NBC.
New York - WCBS-TV’s Late Show - the ratings winner late nights is getting
competition. WABC-TV just added “Shock” from the Universal Pictures package
just released. The station airs those films Thurs, Fri and Sat nights. Both WRCA-
TV and WOR-TV also adding more movies.
Entertainment news - Dead ringer - Luba Otasevic from Yugoslavia, is always
taken for beauty Sophia Loren and infact, acts as her double in movies.

Music news - Elvis Presley receives an edict from
the Los Angeles Police Department during the
singer’s Pan Pacific auditorium concerts, to “clean
up the show or else.” The police ordered the vice
squad to have Presley eliminate all sexy overtones
in the show.
Sam Cooke’s smash “You Send Me” sparks a
revival in spiritual sales, according to record dealers.
Ricky Nelson makes his first concert appearances outside his Ozzie
and Harriet. Rick performed in Southern California this week at the
Long Beach Auditorium and down at the Mission Ballroom near San
Diego. DJ Earl McDaniel of KLAC Los Angeles emceed both shows.
George (Hound Dog) Lorenz has his eight anniversary show of stars
on tour. The WKBW (Buffalo) DJ took it Rochester, Scranton,
Providence, and Hartford. Lots of talent including the Bobbettes, Roy
Hamilsont, Mell Kings, Tune Weavers, Little Joe, The Clovers,
Screamin Jay Hawkins, Thurston Harris and others.
Capitol Records unveils its answer to Russia’s Sputnick in the form of a new
Mickey Katz record tagged “Nudnick, the Flying Schissel.” Other Sputnick
records include “Rockin’ in the Orbit” on Imperial Records and one from
Buchanan & Goodman.

Elektra Records will market a stereophonic tape line called Dyna-Tapes. 30-
minutes will retail at $11.95 and 45 minutes at $14.95. Initial release in the line
includes “Four French Horns” by Mat Mathews and “Vibe-rant” featuring Teddy
Charles. The format of course is reel-to-reel. Look for it beginning next month.
WCFL Chicago bans all Elvis Presley records. It had to do with all the hoopla
surrounding the premiere of Elvis’ “Jailhouse Rock” movie.
KRLD-TV (Dallas) is now telecasting live from the stage of “Big D Jamboree”
each Saturday night 10-10:30pm. Roy Acuff just appeared on the Big D stage
and Wanda Jackson is set for this week.
