Iraq - Officials in Samawah say a U.S. Army convoy
opened fire in an unprovoked attack on motorists
who were trying to get out of its way, injuring four
and destroying a truckload of sheep.
The United Nations panel on climate change
approves the final installment of its report on global
warming and concludes that even the best efforts of
reducing CO2 levels will not be enough.
Medical - Researchers from Japan and Wisconsin report they had
reprogrammed mature human cells to behave almost exactly like embryonic stem
cells in what is being called a biological breakthrough. Researchers, by activating
a handful of dormant genes, were able to coax the cells back in time to a point of
embryonic development before they had committed to becoming a particular type
of tissue.
The United Nations lowers years of estimates on the number worldwide infected
by the AIDS virus. The new analysis shows that the total number of people living
with HIV has been gradually increasing, but at a slower rate. About 33 million
people worldwide are infected with the virus, compared with last year’s estimate
of almost 40 million.
Several thousand demonstrators lead by Al Sharpton descend on the Justice
Department to demand a federal crackdown on hate crimes and a more vigorous
response to incidents of noose hangings and other displays of racial antagonism.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has told Tyson Foods to stop labeling
chicken as “raised without antibiotics” after the agency said it made a mistake in
approving that term.
Business - Kraft Foods agrees to sell its tow dozen Post cereals to Ralcorp
Holdings for nearly $1.7-bilion in stock.

Near Phoenix - Mike Tyson is sentenced to 24 hours in jail and three years
probation for cocaine possession and driving under the influence.
Technology - Apple Inc agrees to pay $10 million to Burst.com - settling a
patent-infringement lawsuit. The suit concerns technology that stores audio and
video files.
Wow - Facebook - just three years old, has some 54 million users with
estimated 2007 revenue at $150 million.
Another made-for-web series jumps to television as NBC confirms that it would
begin airing hour-long “Quarterlife” episodes early next year. Three eight-minute
episodes have aired on the Web. And, it’s a show about the Web.
Passing - Actor Dick Wilson (91) - best
known for portraying “Mr. Whipple” in
commercials all those years.

ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” with daughter Miley. Walt Disney records has re-
released to song - now as a duo to radio stations.
Online talkshow hosted by Kool Mo Dee called “Spitfire.” Says Dee, “This is an
opportunity to reach out to people who want to share the collective hip-hop
experience. Your nationality, background and type of job don’t matter. Neither
does whether you grew up listening to Kanye West and 50 Cent Big Daddy
Kane.” The show is an offshoot of the website iamhiphop.
Tila Tequila has a new show - “A Shot at Love
