of staff. Brush reappointed his old friend Nicholas
Brady as Secretary of the Treasury.
President Reagan bids a ceremonial farewell to
British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in
Washington. She praised her longtime friend and
political soul mate for giving the world the chance to
start “over again.”

President-elect George Bush that he must give the Arab-Israeli conflict a higher
priority than President Reagan has and she urged him to begin by finding a way
to reward the Palestine Liberation Organization of its implied recognition of Israel.
The Air Force unveils its B-2 stealth bomber, designed to evade enemy radar
and deliver nuclear weapons.
Former New York congressman Mario Biaggi, forced by corruption convictions
from an influential 10-term career in Congress, is sentenced to 8 years in prison
for his role in the Wedtech bribery scandal.
Egypt formally recognizes the newly declared state of Palestine in the Israeli-
occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The Soviet Union formally recognizes the new Palestinian state.
In Canada, Prime Minister Brain Mulroney leads his Progressive Conservative
party to victory with enough of a parliamentary majority to guarantee ratification
of the U.S.-Canada free trade agreement.

unconscious in the bathroom of a vacation house at a
country club near Buenos Aires.
High Tech
- A computer virus that infected scores of
computers across the United States earlier this month
caused at least $97 million worth of damage. “The real
cost is probably well over $1000,” said John McAfee,
computer virus consultant and director of a Santa
Clara-based group of 11 companies that markets
computer programs to fight viral programs. He said the
virus forced more than 6,000 systems on the Internet network to crash, causing
1.132 million hours of unnecessary work.
The FCC approves plans that are expected to transform that nation’s telephone
network into a gateway - a so-called open network architecture. This is an
important move since AT&T was divested of its local telephone business nearly
five years ago. AT&T and the seven regional phone companies created to carry
on local service were ordered to devise plans for opening up their networks to
outside companies wanting to offer electronic service over them, lest anyone of
them abused their monopoly power to favor their own enterprises.

Oakland A’s right fielder Jose Canseco gets the
American League MVP. He’s the first major leaguer to hit
40 homers and steal 40 bases in a season.
Dodger outfielder Kirk Gibson gets the National League
MVP.
Music news -
Left for dead? That’s right - there were actually rumors
that Bobby Brown of the group “New Edition” had died of
either a drug overdose or in a car accident. But Brown’s career has taken off
since he went solo. Brown left “New Edition” at the ripe age of 17. He says it was
the group’s brand of bubble gum that bothered him most.
Stephen Love, younger brother of Beach Boys lead Mike Love and the group’s
former business manager is sentenced to five years probation and ordered to
make $86,000 restitution of being convicted Oct. 18 of embezzling more than
$900,000 from the group.
MTV is in the middle of “dayparting” their broadcast day. More mellow videos are
shown during midday.
Stevie Wonder, the Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, Dion and the Temptations will
be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the organization’s fourth
annual dinner to be held January 18 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

in U.S. District Court to two concurrent 10-year prison
terms and a $200,000 fine for his conviction on two
federal counts of conspiracy to extort.

- Transtar is set to launch “Radio Kandy”
with John Candy. The show will intersperse comedy
with music. SCTV veterans Joe Flaherty and Valerie
Bromfield will appear in the show on a weekly basis.
“We’re going to keep it light and fun. The idea is to
have a few laughs, enjoy the two hours and have a
good time. I don’t want to do a lot of repeats or get tied
down to a few comedy formats,” said Candy. So far, 157 stations have signed to
carry the 2-hour show.
Westwood One purchases KIQQ-FM Los Angeles for $56 million.

Top-40 KHTR St. Louis is changing formats to oldies under new call letters -
KLOU. Amazing considering the station is doing well in the ratings and beating its
direct competitor, but CBS says its committed to oldies.
Following the drug-related murder of two city officers, Z-100 New York and Scott
Shannon put together a narrative tribute to the pair using U2’s “I Still haven’t
Found What I’m Looking for” and Rod Stewart’s “In My Life.”
