A bomb goes off about 30 feet from the Senate chamber entrance at the U.S.
Capitol. The blast blew the doors off a reception room - no one was injured. The
force of the blast was estimated to be between 2 to 5 sticks of dynamite. A group
opposed to U.S. involvement in Grenada claimed responsibility.
President Reagan’s handling of the October 25 invasion of Grenada wins
widespread public and congressional support allaying concern for his conduct on
foreign affairs. Before the Grenada invasion, Americans had become increasingly
concerned about tensions in Lebanon and Central America, U.S-Soviet relations
including the Soviet’s downing of a South Korean Jetliner.
A Republic Airlines pilot loses an eye and suffers cuts from broken glass when a
goose crashes through the windshield of his plane as it was approaching the
airport in Sioux City, South Dakota. The co-pilot landed the craft with 30
passengers aboard, despite a hole in the windshield the size of a football.
Microsoft will begin of offer programs that make it easier for a PC user to handle
several programs on their screens simultaneously. Its new “Windows” will let
independent software companies develop these products - dubbed “integrated
software packages.” Microsoft says that 23 PC makers will offer Windows with
their systems including HP, Compaq, Tandy, Wang, DEC, Apple and Eagle.

Lisa (Apple Corp). Lisa relies on a device called a mouse, which lets a viewer
point a click from a menu of choices on a screen and integrating one task with
another.
Hustler magazine Publisher Larry Flynt is forcibly removed from court after
shouting obscenities at 9 justices. “F#@% this court. You denied me the counsel
of my choice.” Officers surrounded him and rolled his gold-plated wheelchair out
of the courtroom. He was arrested and charged with contempt of court. The
outburst occurred after arguments were heard in a libel case with Penthouse
Magazine.
Jackie Kennedy Onassis goes to court to kill an
advertisement running in several magazines depicting
her with critic Gene Shalit, actress Ruth Gordon and
model Shari Belafonte-Harper. The ad shows and real
Shalit, Gordon and Harper and implies that the other
model is Onassis. The ad depicts shows the double
peeking over Shalit’s shoulder and was “an
embarrassment and injurious to my reputation
because it makes it appear that I am acting as a
photographic model” said Onassis.
Dies - Deadpan comedian Junior Samples (56). Best
known for his appearances on “Hee Haw.” Samples most
famous skit on the show was a parody on used car
commercials. Samples was from the rural community of
Cumming, Georgia and said his TV appearances “just ‘bout
ruint me” because his neighbors always wanted him to pay
their bills thinking he was rich.
The Frank Sinatra concert scheduled at the St Paul Civic Center in Minnesota is
cancelled due to a sore throat. A new date will be set sometime between 2 and
12 weeks.
Trying to keep a low profile, John F. Kennedy Jr.
arrives in New Delhi, India for six months of
independent study. “I have never given interviews and
I don’t see why I should start now.”
Arriving in Japan, a reporter asks singer Rick
Springfield if he wears underwear. Showing his
purple jockeys he replied “yes I do.’

A wealthy Long Island businessman kisses his wife and then shoots her to death
while she was riding her exercise bike. Stephan Hoffman confessed to the killing
after attempting to make it look like a burglary. Hoffman said his wife insisted on
moving to $400 thousand condominium and he couldn’t afford it.
House speaker Tip O’Neill writes a letter of apology to Nancy Reagan for
remarks he made about her in the New York Times. In the interview, O’Neil said,
“President Reagan could quit tomorrow and she would be queen of Beverly
Hills.”
