The United Nations General Assembly formally brands Russia’s invasion of
Hungary as an “intolerable attempt” to enslave the Hungarian people and a
violation of the U.N. Charter. The U.S. is contributing $1 million to the United
Nations for the relief of Hungarian refugees.
In the latest United Press tabulation - President Eisenhower piles up a
9,312,037-vote margin over Adlai Stevenson in last Tuesday’s Presidential
balloting. So far, 2336 out of 154,968 polling places still aren’t counted.
In Philadelphia, successful completion of tests transmitting
X-ray films between hospitals via telephone fax is
announced. The transmissions were made to New York to Mt
Sinai Hospital from Philly’s Einstein Medical Center.
The City Comptroller of New
York says that finally the
Brooklyn Bridge
has been
paid for - retired with the last $50,000 owed on
the bridge. The landmark was built in 1883 at a
cost of $25 million.
Switzerland withdraws from the Melbourne Olympics, the third nation to step out
of the games within the past two days because of Russian military action in
Hungary.

In Arlington, Virginia - a white librarian is convicted of violating a Virginia
segregation law by sitting beside a Negro at a public political meeting. Faith
Bissell is fined $15 by judge Paul Brown. Miss Bissell was arrested during a
debate Nov 1 when she sat down in a section of the Jefferson Junior High School
Auditorium, which had been reserved for Negroes.
5000 cheering Negroes vote at a mass meeting to end an 11 month-old boycott
of Montgomery city busses as soon as a U.S. Supreme Court order barring bus
segregation is turned over to the Federal District Court.

celebrates he 60th birthday at a
family dinner at the White House... Prince Charles celebrates his
8th birthday with about 30 friends at a tea party compete with cake
and 8 candles.
Mickey Mantle is named the most valuable player
of the American league in the balloting of the
Baseball Writers Association. Runners-up were Al Kaline of
Detroit, Yogi Berra of the Yankees,
Harvey Kuenn of Detroit
,
Billy Pierce of Chicago and Ted Williams of Boston.
Elizabeth Taylor files suit for divorce, charging extreme cruelty to husband #2 -
Michael Wilding. The actress waived all money rights, but asked for $250 a
month support for the children. Miss Taylor announced that she will marry
Producer Mike Todd and has been wearing a $100,000 diamond engagement
ring. She plans to marry Todd as soon as she is legally free.
