President Bush opens his 1992
presidential campaign with a
new attempt to display his
compassion for the
unemployed. Bush is under fire for the state of the economy. He urged the
Federal Reserve to cut interest rates and acknowledge that the faltering
economy is likely to become the central issue in his reelection campaign.
Unemployment edges up to 6.8% from 6.7%.
The Fed reduces discount rate to 4.5%.
Imelda Marcos surrenders her claims to $9 million in cash and jewelry to settle a
$5-billion civil fraud case brought against her by the Philippine government - in
U.S. federal court.
House Speaker Tomas Foley blasted a term-limitation initiative that could cut
short his political career and rejected suggestions that his own reputation is at
stake. If Initiative 553 were passed - it would be his last run for office - the last
for the 13-term Democratic lawmaker.
China acknowledges that it sold nuclear equipment to Iran but insisted it was for
peaceful purposes.
Passing - Broadway producer Joseph Papp. He was 70: from prostate cancer.
Found dead - Media baron Robert Maxwell (68) in waters off Spain’s Canary
Islands where he had been vacationing on his yacht.

Compaq said that it was considering selling its PC’s through the mail for the first
time.
Radio news - Geraldo Rivera goes on Howard Stern’s show to repute what
Bette Midler has been saying. “If she keeps this interview rape talk and saying I
drugged her for sex, I’ll sue her.” His new book is “Exposing Myself” - and in it,
he says he had sex with Midler and other stars.
Music news -
Big anticipation as Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous” album will be released
November 26 with 14 songs - 12 written or co-written by Jackson.
Madonna’s artist-designer
brother - Christopher Ciccone
tells the Advocate that “the thing
that separates me from the rest
of the world is the way I think,
not the way I have sex…
Everything is drawn toward one’s
sexuality, but it’s not that
important.”
Brother Jermaine Jackson, says
he took a swipe at his brother,
Michael - in the song “Word to

Television news -
ABC signs a deal to have Oprah Winfrey produce and host all of the network’s
“Afterschool Specials” for next season - including two talk-show style town
meetings.
ABC and Turner will jointly broadcast the 1994 Goodwill Games from St.
Petersburg (Russia.).
