Walter F. Mondale says Gary Hart, the candidate of
“new ideas” is now resorting to “old politics… back-
room politics in an effort to preserve his presidential
hopes.
Campaigning in New Jersey, Sen. Gary Heart notes,
“One of every 10 research dollars invested in this country is spent in the state of
New Jersey.” Hart said his new ideas would blend with New Jersey’s “high tech”
future.
And the campaigns of Sen. Gary Hart and Jesse Jackson now accuse Walter F.
Mondale of “playing hardball’ in his drive for the Democratic presidential
nomination.
International Olympic chief
Juan Antonio Samaranch
says the Soviet decision to boycott the Los Angeles
Olympic Games is now final. But, the final tally - some 123
nations - a record - will be participating in the summer
Olympic games.
President Regan and his wife, Nancy had to walk down
nine flights of darkened stairs after a power failure knocked

An unidentified Vietnam veteran is laid to rest with nameless casualties of the
last three wars in the white marble Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington
National Cemetery. At the ceremony, President Reagan called on the Hanoi
regime to cooperate in accounting for the 2,489 Americans still listed as missing
in Vietnam. “The unknown soldier who has returned to us today and whom we
lay to rest is symbolic of all our missing sons. Today, we pause to embrace him

with the band during a concert. Actually, he was introduced onstage by David
Lee Roth who then stuck a cake in his face. Jefferis (20) loved it.

Low-rated KHTZ (Los Angeles) is giving away a house. Listen to the Charlie
Tuna show mornings for details. (The listener turned out to be a guy who never
listened to the station. He was just dial twisting when he won the call-in phase.
As a finalist, he received one of seven house keys and it fit!).
Transtar launches “Format 41” on 12 stations, so says Mike Harvey, vice
president of programming. It’s the third Transtar format.
Lee Masters is now in Tulsa at KWEN… Comedy is all the rage at the new
KMDY just north of Los Angeles at 850 on the AM dial. It joins several other
stations in the format - like KLAF Salt Lake City.
Apple will spend $2 million in radio advertising - lots of it for rock station to reach
teens for the company’s new $1.295 IIc computer.

fever as Columbia
Records begins a pre-release blitz of the
album “Born in the U.S.A.” The single
“Dancing In The Dark” was shipped to radio
stations on May 9, although Z-100 and
WNEW-FM New York were playing the song
two days in advance. Columbia is teasing
with album cover blow-ups, T-shirts and
other samples. Look out!
The next Jackson album - “Victory” will push
the other Jacksons into the spotlight.
“Thriller” really spotlighted Michael, so this
time, the other brothers are to be featured on their songs. Tito, who has never
sung lead on a Jacksons record, will provide vocals for his tow songs, “Change
the World” and “Band Company.” Brother Marlon has three tracks for the new
album.
Misleading? - Capitalizing on the Jackson’s current success, Motown releases a
package of previously unreleased Jackson’s songs in an album titled “Farewell
My Summer Love 1984.” All 10 songs were recorded in 1973.
Seen on MTV a commercial for “We’re All Devo,” the group’s new home-video
greatest hits package.

is glad - “Dreamgirls” is history after three
years and she wants to move on. “I’m finally free at last.” She
is touring with Peabo Bryson as a solo artist.
A&M Records will produce its entire line of prerecorded
cassettes on chromium tape.
Coca-Cola has lined-up a tour and endorsement deal with
Julio Iglesias.
Hot video show - “New York Hot Tracks” seen on 80 stations. The 90-minute
show is presented each week and unlike MTV, plays black artists!
Television news -
“One Day At A Time” tapes its last episode after nine seasons.
Following the FCC’s March 29 approval of stereo TV, TV stations are getting
ready to go stereo. NBC-TV seems to be out front. “The Tonight Show” is
recorded but not broadcast in stereo for test purposes.” NBC’s “Friday Night
Videos” is a prime candidate to move from FM simulcast to stereo broadcast in
the future. CBS says at this time, it is not committed to any stereo broadcast
plans. ABC was going to broadcast the Summer Olympics in stereo, but has
recently canned the idea.
