Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole warns fellow Republicans, “it would be an
embarrassment” to President Reagan if the senate fails to approve the medium-
range missile treaty by the time Reagan meets Soviet leader Mikhail S.
Gorbachev in Moscow next weekend. “The ball is in our court.”
The Soviet Communist Party gives Mikhail
Gorbachev , a mandate to pursue his policies for the
country’s radical political, economic and social
transformation despite wide-spread opposition within
the party’s own ranks.
A 17 year-old teenager who requested encyclopedia
information from 169 countries is suing the FBI for 50
pieces of mail that had been tampered with. Todd
Peterson said he wants to see his complete FBI file
and wants it erased. The lawsuit also seeks to stop the
mail tampering and asks for unspecified damages for violation of his privacy.
Palm Springs Mayor Sonny Bono says that a “family squabble” has led to the
firing of his mom and stepfather at his Palm Springs restaurant. The dispute was
with another man hired to take over the management duties.
Retail prices increase .4% in April. It’s on the heels of a .5% increase in March.

George Bush, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day
O’Connor rules out any possibility of taking the
Number two spot on the GOP ticket. “I most assuredly
am not considering any other position in or out of
government and do not expect to do so in the future.”
Jimmy Swaggart returns to the pulpit in Baton Rouge.
For two hours, the preacher wept, shouted scripture,
spoke in tongues, sang, danced, wept, hugged his wife
and asked for money.
The state of Maryland, the first state ever, bans the sale of Saturday night
specials. Presidential press secretary James Brady and 200 police officers from
5 states witnessed the signing ceremony.
In sports - the Atlanta Braves clean house as they fire manager Chuck Tanner
and replace him with minor league manger Russ Nixon. Also fired were coaches

Dies - Sammy Davis Sr. (87).
Dies - Tom Lewis - founder of Armed Forces Radio during WWII. As an army
colonel, Lewis used his contacts in the entertainment industry to build the
worldwide network from scratch. Married to actress Loretta Young 30 years
before divorcing in 1970.
In his new book Talking Straight, Chrysler Corp.
Chairman Lee Iacocca criticizes President Reagan’s
management style by saying he “delegated to a bunch of
stooges and then went off and rode horses.” Reagan is “a
warm and wonderful human being but is totally incapable
of focusing on any issue.” The book is due out next month.

Trump, “Moonwalk” - Michael Jackson.
Television news - Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno reprise their roles in “The Incredible
Hulk Returns” - a two hour TV movie. Kate & Allie marks its 100th episode and
will feature an appearance of Susan St James’s 19 month-old son. ABC cancels
“Dolly” and “Spenser” and announces the return of Peter Falk as “Columbo” this
fall.
Top TV shows - The Crosby Show (21.2), A Different World (21.2), Cheers
(20.9), The Incredible Hulk Returns (20.2) Night Court (19.9).
CBS bags the 1992 Winter Olympics for $243 million.
MTV is home to “Remote Control” a sort of satire
of game shows. Some of the questions - “Name
the Italian lubricant that’s also Popeye’s girlfriend
(Olive Oyl). College students seem to love the
program.
