Nicaragua - presidential spokesman Martin Fitzwater accused Mikhail
Gorbachev of acting like a “drugstore cowboy” but the administration praised the
Soviet decision which they described as a step towards peace.
Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev, surveying the massive protests during his
historic visit to China, says that he is now more convinced than ever of
socialism‟s need for fundamental political and economic reforms, however painful
the changes may be.
The Supreme Court says that a 15-year-old Florida girl may go ahead with plans
to end her pregnancy as it lifted an order imposed two days ago by Justice
Anthony M. Kennedy that had blocked her abortion.
Former U.S. Atty. Rudolph W. Giuliani , who won a national
reputation fighting crooked stock traders, corrupt polititions and
Mafia chieftains, announces he is a candidate for mayor of
New York City, charging the city is “out of control.” “New York
is a city overwhelmed by crime, crack and corruption. The
assassination of police officers and federal agents the record
number of homicides, the chaos of prisoners floating on
barges, the fear in our streets, parks and subways, all point to
a city out of control.”
McMartin preschool trial - on the stand, owner Peggy McMartin said no child was
ever molested at the pre-school.
Chinese leaders order soldiers in Beijing to attempt to restore order after a month
of massive pro-democracy demonstrations.

five-year deal with Malrite, Z100‟s owner and will work out a separate contact to
keep working with Scott Shannon‟s “Rockin‟ America” countdown and perhaps

the charts with Black Sabbeth‟s “Paranoid.” He has a hit with Lita Ford (see

MTV is intensifying its involvement with rap music via a “Yo! MTV Raps”
compilation album involving Jive/RCA.
Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton re-unite for four
stage shows at Dollywood in Nashville. All were sold
out.
Paul McCartney is set to release his first album in
three years - “Flowers in the Dirt.”
Television news -
NBC - the only network without a prime-time news
series, says it will have one in “Yesterday, Today,
Tomorrow.” Three pilot episodes have been shot so
far.
The “Family Ties” farewell episode Sunday night beat the “Moonlight” finale.
MTV Networks announces plans to launch a new basic cable channel exclusively
featuring comedy programming. The new channel in development for the past 18
months, will be called “Ha” TV Comedy Network. HBO and Ted Turner also are
planning comedy channels. Viacom is developing such a channel and Cox
Communications reportedly is discussing another one with Paramount Pictures
Entertainment.
