In a televised news conference to the nation, President
Nixon says that operations in Cambodia have gone so
well - that the withdrawal of the first U.S. troops would
begin next week. He promised that all Americans would
be withdrawn from the neutral country by the end of June.
At least 20 men and 6 woman are seen bathing naked in
the shallow water of the pool adjacent the Lincoln
Memorial in Washington. At first, police looked the other
way, but later - two males were arrested for indecent
exposure.
Two male students are killed and 10 injured after police and highway patrolmen
open fire on the campus of black Jackson State College in Mississippi. Officers
say they fired at a dormitory after someone fired shots at them.
Robert White, President of Kent State University tells students their school would
remain closed until the summer session - at least. The decision was made after 4
students were killed last week in confrontation with national guardsmen on
campus.
Vice President Agnew tells a TV audience that
national guardsman “overreacted” and may in a sense
have been guilty of murder in the revolt at Kent State
University last week. Agnew was interviewed for the
syndicated “David Frost Show.’

500th home run of his career. He’s the ninth player in
major league history to hit that high mark.

The city of Montreal is awarded the 1976 Summer Olympic games in a surprise
decision. The other cities in the running were Moscow and Los Angeles.
Little Richard suffers a broken wrist and five others are injured after part of the
stage gives away at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. The stage gave way
after about 50 fans rushed to the stage after the Rock and Roll legend began
singing “Come On.” About 80 people were arrested.
Interviewed by a TV reporter in Honolulu, bachelor Prime
Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau of Canada asks the reporter
out. She declined, saying she was married. The prime
minister then asked why she hides her rings under her
notebook.
In radio news - Kahn labs installs its AM stereo system on a
station in a major market. Station XTRA (690-AM) is telling
its listeners they can hear their beautiful music in AM stereo
by taking one radio and tuning it just to the left and take
another radio and tune it slightly to the right. Beaming its signal from the Mexican
border, XTRA can be heard in San Diego and Los Angeles.

gives Buddy Epsen, Max Baer Jr.,
Irene Ryan and Donna Douglas a
guided tour of the White House. The
four received double takes - still in
makeup and costume.
Liz And Richard Burton tape “Here’s
Lucy” this week at Paramount in
Hollywood.
The FCC rules that TV networks will be
prohibited from acquiring subsidiary
rights and interests in TV programs by any other source other then themselves.
The ruling goes into affect September. Also, the commission says that TV
stations in the top-50 markets where there are 3 or more commercial TV stations,
can only broadcast 3 hours of primetime from a network between 7 and 11pm.
That ruling goes into affect September of next year.
