Three Air Force F-100C Super Saber jets set a 14-hour non-stop flight record.
The Jets flew from London to Los Angeles at an average speed of 480 mph and
a total of 6,710 non-stop miles.
Approval for pay-as-you-watch TV is expected within six weeks by the FCC. Pay
TV will adapt itself to programs that don’t have a wide audience such as an opera
or a play.
20th Century-Fox announces plans for the presentation of 55 motion pictures
during the forthcoming year. The announcement was made (on film), in a 90-
minute presentation entitled “The Big Show.” The film included the likes of Darryl
F. Zanuck, David O. Selznick, Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein, Dick
Powell and others. The estimated cost for all 55 movies is $40 million.

After a two-year hiatus from films, Samuel
Goldwyn will buy and produce a film
version of “Porgy & Bess,” George
Gershwin’s celebrated musical. Goldwyn is
carrying out a plan on which he has been
working for the past 10 years. “It is never
easy to secure the film rights to such a
highly valuable theatrical property as
‘Porgy and Bess’... there were many
people with whom to negotiate.”

Pinza was one of a few who
made the transition from opera
to musicals. At his home
following a stroke. He was 64.
