Premier Khrushchev and President Nasser of the
United Arab Republic talk for three hours in the
Kremlin. Egyptians say Nasser is seeking more
economic aid. Meanwhile, the U.S. unfreezes $26
million in Egyptian government assets in a move to
restore friendly relations with President Nasser’s
United Arab Republic.
A million Russians bearing peace banners march through Red Square behind
Moscow’s smallest and least bellicose May Day military display in years. There
were no new arms displayed, nor was there the usual air force fly-past.
The Soviet Union brushes aside all pleas for compromise and vetoes President
Eisenhower’s proposal for a military inspection system in the Arctic. It was
denounced as a plan intended to enable the West to spy on Soviet territory.
Secretary of State Dulles said the veto was ‘frightening and tragic.”
Paraguay - Vice President Nixon pulls out al the stops to win the warmest ovation
of his South American tour from thousands of Paraguayans who lined the 6-mile
route from the airport.

An African lioness claws an 8-year-girl to
death after escaping from a private zoo
six miles north of Nanaimo, BC. The girl
was identified as Maureen Vanstone,
daughter of a Dr. Vanstone of the Pacific Biological Station at Departure Bay.
Later, the animal was cornered and killed.
Entertainment news - Scandal breaks out in the life if
bridegroom Dennis Crosby when a tall, Hollywood
brunette alleged that he fathered her 5 ½-month-old
daughter. She’s Marilyn Miller Scott (26) who lives in a
small apartment in Hollywood. This only adds to the
woes of Dennis after he was told his marriage to showgirl

pat Sheehan in Las Vegas was performed by a minister who is no longer an
accredited elder in the church he once represented.
The New York Yankees don’t like the idea of a local New York TV stations
broadcasting games of the National League. They say they may retaliate with a
national radio-TV network. A recent report that both the Cardinals in St. Louis
and the Pirates in Pittsburgh, would telecast all their home Los Angeles Dodger
and San Francisco Giant games into the New York area - a total of 45 games.
And the Phillies have committed to telecast 78 home and away games in New
York - for a total of 122 “other” ball games on New York TV.
Television News -
Looks to be a splash as WNTA-TV (channel 13 Newark NJ) makes its debut this
week. Among other things, the station says it will present some of the National
League games mentioned above (see ads).

Westinghouse agrees to sponsor the new 1-hour “DesiLu Playhouse” show on
CBS-TV for $11 million. The sum covers talent and production cost of the
program and air time. The show will be hosted by Desi Arnaz and will consist of
dramas, comedies, musicals and westerns. The Westinghouse series also will
include seven one-hour “special” programs starring Desi, Lucy, William Frawley
and Vivian Vance. Two of the seven will be repeats from the “Lucille Ball-Desi
Arnaz Show” sponsored this season by Ford. It all starts in October.
