Palestinian gunmen open fire on motorists waiting at an Israeli military roadblock
in the West Bank and a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded
orthodox neighborhood in the heart of Jerusalem, killing a total of 19 Israelis.
Afghanistan - U.S. bombers hammer Al Queda positions in the mountains of
eastern Afghanistan for a second day.
Doctors in Saudi Arabia have perfected the first human uterus transplant, which
produced two menstrual periods before it failed and had to be removed.
A federal appeals court overturns the convictions of three New York City police
officers in the 1997 beating and brutalization of Abner Louima, a Haitian
immigrant.
Enron update - a federal judge says there was evidence J.P. Morgan Chase &
Co. had extended a “disguised loan” to Enron Corp. which could prevent Morgan
from collecting on nearly billion in surety bonds.
The Disney Store no more - Disney says
it will turn its retail chain into two stores.
Disney Play stores will target 3 to 10-
year-olds and the other outlets will be
called Disney Kids at Home - aimed at
parents and will stock bed and bath
products, apparel and home furnishings.
Sports - Leaving Fox Sorts - John Madden is going into
the Monday Night Football booth on ABC-TV. He’ll be
teamed solely with Al Michaels. Booted are Dennis Miller,
after being with the broadcasts for two years: Don Fouts and
Eric Dickerson. The deal is worth $20 million to Madden. No
wonder they chucked the other three.

Shirley Jones files for divorce from comedian
Marty Ingels to whom she’s been married for 25
years.
According to People Magazine, Madonna will
make her London stage debut in “Up for Grabs.”

Monica Lewinsky , the world’s most famous intern, will be
answering questions in an HBO documentary. Look for
“Monica in Black and White” on Sunday.
Music news - Single sales totaled 31 million - down a
whopping 41% since 2000. Record companies say singles
aren’t made for many of the most popular songs because they
are unprofitable. There’s the belief by record companies that
singles also hurt album sales. CD singles, which usually have two or three songs,
generally retail for $4 to $5. Many retailers routinely discount them by 50% or
more. In some cases singles are made before the album, then pulled when the
CD becomes available. One trend is the maxi-single which contain five or six
sings, often remixes of the same song. They sell for $7 to $8.
Paul McCartney and his band will begin to tour. The “Driving USA Tour” kicks off
April 1 in Oakland.
Television news -
“Watching Ellie ,” the new NBC sitcom starring Julia
Louis-Dreyfus has a 28% drop in ratings from its
debut a week ago.
“The Osbournes” with Ozzy and family debut on MTV
this week. MTV is calling it the first “reality” sitcom.
HBO debuts “Six Feet Under” and gets an estimated
6.2 million viewers.
ABC and Drew Carey are at odds. Seems that
censors at the network want to halt production of an
episode that pokes fun at heightened
airport security.
