President Reagan selects FBI director William Webster as he new director for the
CIA. The agency is coming under increasing fire for its role in the unfolding Iran-
contra scandal.
President Reagan “blows-up” and denounces reports as “despicable fiction” that
his wife, Nancy, helped force Donald Regan from office. Regan was the White
House Chief Of Staff.
Nancy Reagan startles those attending an American
Camping Association meeting in Washington” “I don’t
think most people associate me with leeches or how to
get them off. But I know how to get them off. I’m an
expert at it.”
A dynamite-loaded cargo ship is abandoned by its crew
after a fire breaks out on board. Adrift in the English
Channel - a decision is being made either to tow it, or
have the French Navy sink it with firepower.
A private nurse assigned to artist Andy Warhol is barred from caring for patients
at New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center. Warhol died on February 22 after
undergoing a gallbladder operation. The hospital’s review of his medical record
raised questions concerning her performance. A spokeswoman said the hospital
“did not intend to have the nurse work here again.”

Steven Luben (36) - a Vietnam Vet and his girlfriend Diane
Felner are sentenced to four years in prison in London for
supplying heroin to singer Boy George. The prosecutor
said, “Feiner and Luben fastened on him like leeches. What
started as an occasional use became habit and turned into
addiction, fed by Luben’s supply.”
The Walt Disney Co. opens its first store near Los Angeles. Spokesman Tom
Deegan said that if the store is successful, others might follow.

The American Cancer Society says that it will provide low-cost breast X-rays for
thousands of woman during their Breast Cancer Detection Awareness Program.
Some of the tests will cost as little as $40.
Hershey voluntarily recalls as many as 2.8 million chocolate-covered granola
bars because peanuts were mistakenly added. The label doesn’t list peanuts as
an ingredient to Hershey’s New Trail Chocolate Covered Granola Bars. Four
persons who ate the bars had an allergic reaction (but were not hospitalized).

a 14 hour liver transplant operation. Miss
“Lovelace” had been waiting on a liver since last
fall. Remarried, her husband is a plaster worker
with two children.
