Mop up - The Clinton Administration asks
Congress for an additional $45 billion to
dispose of insolvent Savings and Loans
and provide a hefty margin against future
failures. That $12 billion more than
President Bush’s estimate
The House approves President Clinton’s $16.3 billion stimulus package to carry
out his vision for a change in America.
Justice Byron R. White - the lone Democrat on the Supreme Court announces
he will retire in June, after 31 years.
President Boris N. Yeltsin announces that his is
assuming temporary power to rule Russia by decree
and orders an April 25 referendum asking voters to
endorse his leadership, a new constitution drafted
under his direction and a law to elect a new
Parliament.
The Clinton Administration signals support for
Yelstin’s declaration of “special rule” saying the
country’s “only democratically elected national leader” is “letting the Russian
people decide their future.”
The body of a missing restaurant employee buried for more than two weeks
under rubble is recovered from the World Trade Center parking garage, bringing
the death toll to six in the February 26 bombing.
Poking fun - President Clinton teases reporters during a radio address, saying
he would possibly name James Carville or Jay Leno to the Supreme Court.
Ross Perot says he tends to keep up the pressure on Clinton and the Congress
and features a new 30-minute commercial. It’ll air on Sunday night.
Donald Trump and nine other campaign contributors admit violating limits on
political donations and will pay fines totaling $64,000.

Pepsico says it has signed an agreement to become a partner in a soft drink
bottling operation in Vietnam - the first American industrial firm to disclose a
specific deal to return to Vietnam after the U.S. lifts its economic embargo.
Technology - The first legal clone of an Apple Macintosh debuts. It’s by NuTek
USA Corp and they’ve come up with a circuit board that will make a computer act
like a Mac IIvx for about $300 less then the genuine article. NuTek also has a
machine called the Duet, which for $2996 runs both Mac and IBM compatible
software.
Medical - The FDA advisory board recommends marketing approval for
Tactrine, the first drug show to be effective for Alzheimer’s disease.
Sports - Steffi Graf beats Gabriela Sabatini at the
Lipton Championships semifinals in Key Biscayne.

was 92.
Michael Jackson wins approval from
Santa Barbara (CA) Country to build a breeding ground for
gorillas, apes, white tigers, bears and other animals at his
Neverland Ranch.
Woody Allen says that a team of physicians and social workers
has exonerated him of Mia Farrow’s allegation that he molested
their adopted 7-year-old daughter. “The conclusion is no molestation, no sexual
abuse ever took place,” said Allen.

Passing - Skip Young - appeared in Ozzie and Harriet
as Wally Plumstead from 1957 to 1966. He was 63.
New on MTV - “Beavis and Butt-Head.” MTV bought the
rights to the characters and ordered 65 four-minute
cartoons after they appeared as a brief segment in
MTV’s “Liquid Television.” Those who have seen it say
it’s perfect for the channel. They have nothing to say,
they watch videos, urinate in pools, and bang their heads
in unison.
New on VH1 - “Body by VH1” hosted by supermodel Rachel Hunter. The half-
hour workout show is backed with music from the VH1 hitlist.

ABC’s “Nightline” says it will begin at 11:35pm beginning April 5. This follows
moves by NBC and CBS to start late-night programming the same time, instead
of 11:30pm.
CBS news anchor Dan Rather appears on NBC’s Late Night With David
Letterman” - a movie that causes a little dismay within NBC affiliate stations.
Afterall, Tom Brokaw had appeared on Letterman’s show some 35 times. But,
Rather is expected to make more Letterman appearances when the show moves
over the CBS.
The Americana Television Network (The Branson Channel) based in Branson,
will begin airing programming on the Nostalgia Network next month. One of the
programs - “Branson After Hours” a musical variety show that features acts
playing in the Branson theaters.
Music news - George Michael breaks a 3-year interview silence
and talks with MTV for a mid-April special. Michael is unable to
release new recordings due to a pending lawsuit against Sony
Music.
Lisa Stansfield says she’s going to put her
recording career on hold to devote time to
acting.
New music channel as Channel Z - a channel featuring
contemporary Christian music videos. According to a recent
Gallup poll, there are at least 50.5 adult Christian music buyers
with annual sales of over $500 million.
Radio news - It’s revealed that Howard Stern affiliate KLSX Los
Angeles is editing Stern’s show, especially the “raciest
portions.” The station was slapped with a $106,000 Stern
indecency fine last October and they’re not taking chances.
