heavily armed cult leader who has held
federal agents at bay for three days - said
he would surrender himself and his
followers - but the time came and went.
Federal agents arrest a suspect described
as a devout Muslim and accuse him of
renting a yellow ford van that they believe
was used to carry explosives into the
World Trade Center’s underground parking
garage.
Four federal agents attempting to serve
search warrants to a cult compound in
Waco are killed in a shootout.
In Waco, members of the Branch Davidian release six more children as hundreds
of armed law enforcement officials ring the compound.
Federal agents investigating the World Trade Center explosion find more bomb-
making ingredients during searches in the NY/NJ area.
Medical - Scientists will attack brain cancers by infecting tumor cells with a
herpes gene and then killing the cancer with a herpes drug, under an
experimental therapy approved by a federal committee.
Although junk bond king Michael Milken did little to win a big reduction in his 10-
year prison sentence, his tips have resulted in a government probe of Merrill
Lynch & Co. for alleged securities fraud - so says New Yorker magazine.

Music news -
Vibe - a new music magazine specializing in hip-hop/rap, reggae and dance will
debut in September.
Michael Jackson makes an appearance on the
Seventh Annual Soul train Music Awards. He
sang, “Remember the Time” and picked up a
Humanitarian of the Year award recognizing his
Heal the World foundation.
Dr. Dre will begin his first-ever solo outing to push
his “The Chronic” album later
this month.
Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston are the
parents of a baby girl - 6-pound and 12 ounces.

Seinfeld hit #5 in the ratings last week- it’s highest ratings ever. NBC is hoping
the “Cheers” countdown to the end will help strengthen “Seinfeld” since it follows
on Thursday nights. The show has been around for about three years - and not
too long ago - was #40 in the ratings. Also, NBC has shuffled “Seinfeld” into
eight different time slots since 1989 - but it looks like - Thursday nights at 9:30p
- is the one.
NBC President Robert Wright and NBC News President Michael Gartner resign
three weeks after NBC made an embarrassing apology for staging a fiery crash
for a report at General Motors pickup trucks.
