The release of the 39 American hostages
in Beirut from TWA flight 847 breaks
down. The hostages and US negotiators

and end. Jaafar Shalabi, an official in
Muslim leader Nabih Berri’s militia - says

“terrorists and those who support them
must and will be held to account.” One
Navy diver on the plane has been killed
so far.
The 39 hostages are finally released and headed for home. They were part of a
TWA hijacked between Athens and Rome by fundamentalist Muslim gunmen.
