Film director John Landis and 4 others will be
prosecuted criminally in connection with a helicopter crash
that killed actor Vic Morrow and two child actors while
filming a scene for the upcoming film “the Twilight Zone. A
special effects worker and the helicopter pilot are among
those charged.

woman ever to fly into space.
In Paris, a 20 year-old French housewife
discovers that a violent headache she
suffered for 10 days is caused by a bullet
fired at her by her husband while she was
sleeping. Evelyne Muxart recently woke up
and found blood in her hair, washed it out and went back to bed with her
husband. The next day, she began to have violent headaches. Doctors removed
a 22-caliber slug from her head. Her husband was arrested. He was out of work
and intended to commit suicide after killing his wife.
Republic Airlines fires the pilot of a twin-engine jetliner that came within 30
seconds of running out of fuel on a flight from Phoenix to Fresno, California. The
plane, with 86 persons on board, lost power in one of its engines after the crew
discovered it was low on fuel. Under full power, the plane made an emergency
landing at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona.
Pope John Paul II visits his troubled homeland of Poland,
ignoring a call from the government to stick to the “religious
aspect” of his visit. The visit inspired a renewed spirit against
the country’s communist regime.
An audit of the financially troubled National Public Radio
network reveals the network is $4 million in debt. NPR
Chairman Myron Jones said the network is “only wounded...
not mortally wounded” and “we will survive.” The audit showed that management
did not keep accurate records of American Express expenditures and that

expense reports were incomplete.
The entire Encyclopedia Americana is being readied for computers and Frank
Farrell, president of Grolier Electronic publishing claims that “any adult who is
computer illiterate in the next 10 years will be obsolete... it’s a very scary
proposition for adults.”
In sports, John Williams, former all pro, is indicted by a federal grand jury on
charges of distributing cocaine. Williams (37), who now practices dentistry in
Minnesota, was an offensive tackle with the Colts and Rams. “I was dealing. I
was foolish. I was in a whirlwind caught in the middle of it and sinking. I’ll be glad
to get it over with. I don’t want sympathy, I’ll just lay it straight on the table.”
