Iraq - At least a dozen Shiite worshipers and a leading Sunni Arab cleric are
killed in a new round of sectarian violence.
No cutting and running from Iraq as Republicans win approval of a resolution
endorsing President Bush’s policies in Iraq. 42 Democrats supported the
resolution. Democrats who opposed the resolution said a vote for it was
tantamount to backing a failed status quo, as well as a deliberate confusion of
the war on terrorism with the conflict in Iraq.
The Bush administration moves to shore-up diplomatic pressure on North Korea,
warning that a launch of a ballistic missile would be a “provocative act.”
Seven Marines and a navy corpsman are charged with premeditated murder
kidnapping, conspiracy and other offenses in connection with the April 26 death
of an Iraqi civilian. They are accused of breaking into a home near Baghdad,
dragging out an unarmed disabled 52-year-old Iraqi and killing him.

Technology - Cool - Another cell phone with a horizontal keyboard - The
Sidekick 3 which also features an Mp-3 player. It’s offered by T-Mobile and
should sell for $300. Other keyboard phones include Motion’s Blackberry and
Palm Inc’s Treo.
Radio news - HD radio update - You’re starting to hear ads on a new kind of
radio - HD radio in a coordinated effort by all radio broadcasters. Radio Shack
has become the largest retail chain to begin selling HD radios via a pilot program
in 100 of its 5,000 stores and talks are ongoing with Best Buy and Circuit City.
The HD Radio Alliance, an organization consisting of the nation’s largest radio
broadcasters, is conducting a $200 million “Got Milk”- style awareness campaign
for HD radio. So far, only 6% of the country’s 13,000 radio stations broadcast in
HD.

Payola - EMI Music North America becomes the fourth major record company to
settle with New York Atty. Gen Eliot Spitzer over “pay for play” allegations. In a
document, Spitzer alleged that EMI employees had “illegally provided radio
stations with financial benefits to obtain airplay and boost the chart position of its
songs,’ including music by the Rolling Stones, Coldplay and Norah Jones.” One
station mentioned was WBLI-FM on Long Island.

Disneyland announces a new,
revamped “Pirates of the Caribbean”
