A Norwegian coast guard ship cuts through thick Arctic ice to rescue hundreds of
people who had taken refuge on ice floes and in lifeboats after their soviet cruise
liner hit an iceberg and took on water.
The Supreme Court rules that flag burning is protected by the Constitution as a
form of political protest.
The Supreme Court rules that a black person who is harassed on the job
because of his race cannot sue his employer for damages under the Civil Rights
Act of 1866. The court says that act did not cover general discrimination or
abusive treatment once they are o the job or in school.
China - A Beijing court sentences eight to death for resisting a bloody military
assault on pro-democracy demonstrators two weeks ago. Meantime, the Bush
Administration maneuvers to salvage commercial relations with Beijing after
Beijing‟s bloody suppression of the pro-democracy movement.
Business - Junk bond king Michael Milken officially ends
his 20-year career at Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc and says
he will launch his own financial consulting firm while he
awaits trail on racketeering and securities fraud charges.

Radio news - Z-100 New York is back up to a 5.5
from a 5.1. Its revamped Ross & Wilson morning show scores a 6.4. WNEW -FM
goes 3.8 to 4.3 and rival WXRK 3.2-3.4. Oldies WCBS-FM is at a 4.9 In LA -
KPWR - 6.4 and KIIS-FM has a 5.7. Pirate Radio gets a nice bump - 2.7-3.4
Music news - Ringo Starr and his “All Star Band” are going on his first U.S.
concert tour since he was with the Beatles in 1966. It begins July 25 in Chicago
Arista‟s hottest music act is Milli Vanilli. Their “Girl You Know It‟s True,” has just
been certified platinum and spawned the top three pop smash title cut. And

“Baby Don‟t Forget My Number,” is in the top-10. The trendy pair began
performing in Germany two years ago after meeting at a Los Angeles dance club.
A demo tape of their work fell into the hands of producer Frank Farina, who was
known at the time for his work with European sensation Boney M. Milli Vanilli
initially caught on in Europe.
With their hot album, “The Raw And The Cooked” - The Fine Young Cannibals
are doing just fine. Their debut self-titled first album - didn‟t do nearly as well and
that was three years ago. Two of the members - bassist David Steele and
guitarist Andy Cox were once with the English Beat. The Cannibals are fronted
by Roland Gift.
Also touring - Tiffany and New Kids on the Block on the same bill. Don‟t miss this
concert!
Entertainment news - CBS-Fox is rush-releasing a series of “I Love Lucy”
cassettes and they are due out June 23. Star Lucille Ball died in April.
VH-1, Greenpeace and Geffen Records have teamed up to promote the
environmentalist/peace group, its issues and “rainbow Warriors,” Geffen‟s
double-record compilation that benefits the organization. The thrust of the liaison
is VH-1‟s “World Alerts” - a series of 60-second spots featuring celebrities
discussing a variety of environmental issues. The segments end with the
Greenpeace logo and a toll-free number superimposed over a picture of the
planet earth. VH-1 can be seen in about 32 million homes.
