The Argentine government says that it will not end the war with Britain until there
is a total withdrawal of British troops from the Falkland Islands and the end of the
economic sanctions against it.
President Reagan and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin meet and declare
they both seek an end to the violence in Lebanon and a strengthening of its
central government.
A federal court jury decides that John W. Hinckley Jr. was mentally ill when he
shot President Reagan last year outside the Washington Hilton hotel and found
him, “not guilty by reason of insanity.”
The U.S Embassy advises American in Beirut to leave immediately after Israeli
forces launch a massive attack against Syrian trips there.

gives birth to a baby boy,
described as blue-eyed, health and crying.
The Justice Department accuses 18 employees of two
Hitachi and Mitsubishi and one other person of paying
$648,000 to an undercover FBI agent to steal computer
secrets from IBM. Those arrested were charged with
conspiracy to transport stolen property from the U.S. to
Japan.
President Reagan vetoes an emergency money bill containing housing subsidies
for low and middle-income homebuyers. He says that Congress is not serious
about controlling federal spending.
President Reagan making his first trip to CIA headquarter in Langley, Virginia,
signs into law a controversial bill making it a crime to disclose the names of
American spies, whom he called “heroes of a grim twilight struggle,’

successor will be former Treasury secretary George P.
Shultz.
Porno star John C. Holmes is acquitted of al charges of
Four Laurel Canyon murders and the attempted slaying of
another. But, he was taken to a Los Angeles jail on

unrelated grand theft and receiving stolen property charges.
A woman who had hot coffee spilled in her lap while flying to Spain is entitled to
$3,000 damages because her vacation was spoiled. The suit was against Iberia
Airlines. She contended that the incident ruined her sex life, drove away her live-
in lover and that she was entitled to 41 million in damages.
Stunned by a narrow defeat in the Illinois House, seven women fasting for the
equal rights amendment end their hunger strike in their 37
th
day without food.
The women, who toasted “the new era of women,” with champagne glasses filled
with grape juice, called the fast a success.

, an NFL head coach for 12
years, is named coach of the Chicago franchise of the
new u>s. Football League. He’s been out of work, so to
speak for five years.

- A new cable channel is launched
this week - CHN (Cable Health Network).

channel is launched this week…
Competition for CNN - (Information in a hurry) - Get
ready for the Satellite News Channel, which makes its
debut this week. The all-news channel is an effort by ABC and Westinghouse
and is debuting in 2.6 million cable homes. It’s designed basically as a quick-
turnover news source much like Westinghouse’ all-news radio stations such as
KFWB Los Angeles and WINS New York. Studios are in Stamford, CT. The
company is already working on Satellite News Channel II which will offer longer
stories, congressional hearings, interviews and documentaries. Some estimates
say the companies spent $100 million to launch the channel.
Pac Man - America’s most popular video game, is coming to Saturday morning
television as a cartoon. Marty Ingles will be the voice of Pac Man and Barbara
Minkus will be his wife.
The FCC approves guidelines for a new kind of TV service - direct satellite-to-
home broadcasting. Nine companies have applications for new service and they
will now be processed.

Radio news -
Radio guy Denny Somach of Somach-Nelson Productions is looking for radio
stations to simulcast his “Rock ‘n’ Roll Show,” a half-hour pilot video TV show.
The test runs on all the CBS O&O stations. Mark Goodman of MTV is the host.
Cousin Brucie is back on New York radio with “Cousin Brucie’s Dance Party”
heard on WCBS-FM Saturday nights. Morrow still operates his chain of radio
stations including WALL AM/FM Middletown and WRAN, Dover NJ.
Consultant Mike Josephs believes top-40 is at the beginnings of an incredible
resurgence. “I feel like it’s 1956 all over again.” His “Hot Hits’ format is now heard
on WCAU-FM Philly and WBBM-FM Chicago. He says the music of today is
“very good.” “We’re back to a strong beat and diversified playlist, which is the
way to keep radio from sounding stale. And we’re seeing an exciting mix of new
and standard artists, a truly mass appeal approach. There’s something for
everyone.”
WCBM Baltimore (AM-68) is switching from adult contemporary to news talk next
week. KEZL (102.9) in San Diego has dropped Shulke II (The automated
vocal/lite AC service) in favor of live adult contemporary.
ABC Radio kills its much-promoted
“SuperRadio” satellite fed A/C format. The
network was due to premier July 1. The DJ
lineup was completed only a few weeks ago
when
Jack Spector
, Bob Dayton and Steve
York were signed for weekends. National radio
satellite networks already in operation have
more than 250 affiliates. The biggest is Kent
Burkhart’s Satellite Music Network. A lack of
affiliates has been cited - with only three-full
time stations ready to go.
The network just signed WACJ/WWOL Buffalo
and KBRA Wichita.

USA’s “Night Flight” features Chick Corea and Gary Burton, The Boomtown Rats
are spotlighted next week. MTV will feature Hall & Oates in concert from the
