Iran Contra testimony - Fawn Hall tells the congressional Iran-contra committees
that Oliver North ordered her to alter certain documents and that files and logs of
telephone calls form the offices of the former national security aide were
shredded when the scandal broke last November.

shredding, altering and removing sensitive
documents form lt. Col Oliver L. North’s files to be
part of a cover-up as the Iran-contra scandal
unraveled last fall. “I use the word protect,” said Ms
Hall.
More testimony - Fawn Hall reveals that she slipped
documents under her clothing and smuggled them
out of the White House complex to her ex-boss
(Oliver North) on the day he was fired.

A Soviet television news commentator said President Regan’s challenge to
soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall was “taken right
from the Cold war time arsenals.” Commentator Viktor Glazunov told his
audience - “Moreover Ronald Reagan made a speech in west Berlin which by no
means can be called a specimen of new thinking. Unfriendly attacks on the
U.S.S.R. were taken right from the Cole war period arsenals.”
David Fischer, the President’s top personal aide from 1981 to 1985, receives full
immunity in return for his cooperation with the independent counsel investigating
the Iran-contra affair.

of congressional opposition sparked
by concern for Israel.
President Regan, in a gesture of
harmony at the opening of the
annual seven-nation economic
summit in Venice, announces the
partial Lifting of U.S sanctions on
Japanese electronics goods. The
order was based on improvement
by Japan on just one type of
memory microchip - the d-ram chip
and that Japan had raised the
prices of these chips in overseas
markets. Reagan said that is action “is strictly proportional to progress to date.”
Weekly radio - President Reagan warns that pending Democratic backed trade
legislation “would damage our own prosperity and that of virtually the entire
world” by stifling trade at a time when U.S. compositeness is improving.”
Wholesale prices rose just .3% in May and the nation’s merchandise trade deficit
narrowed slightly to $13.3 billion in April.
General Motors says it is recalling 1.1 million 1983-1984 J-body cars such as
Buick Skyhawk and Chevrolet Cavalier and the 108,000 1985-86 Chevrolet
Spectrum cars to correct safety defects.

Thousands of air traffic controllers decide overwhelmingly to form a new union in
a vote cast six years after President Reagan broke their 1981 strike and fired
those who walked off their jobs.
Cuban President Fidel Castro has agreed to release 348 current and former
political prisoners all jailed at least 10 years and allow them to immigrate to the
United States, The U.S. Catholic Conference said.
PTL’s new management seeks bankruptcy protection and blames it on defrocked
founder Jim Bakker, a “melting snowflake” PTL accused of breaking god’s laws
and disregarding man’s.
Fawning over Fawn - Fawn Hall in the spotlight after her Iran-
contra affair testimony. One article said - “the fact is that Hall’s
black-and-white jungle print blouse, her aquamarine eyes, her
willowy figure and her Farrah Fawcett-like hairdo logged as
much media time and words as all the shredding, altering and
hiding of documents she testified she did as secretary to her
boss, Lt. Col. Olivier North.” Hall herself is a little indignant that
she became an object of national attention. She especially
disliked being lumped with two other attractive women who gained notoriety at
the same time - Jessica Hahn and Donna Rice, who were part of sex scandals.
A Democratic operative says, “If she had been 53 and dowdy, no one would have
cared.”
Brooke Shields , escorted by a bodyguard, leads
Princeton University’s class of 1987 in the
commencement procession. “I did it” Shields told
reporters as she held her diploma. She majored in
romance languages with an emphasis on French. “It
was difficult at first. It was difficult for me because I
didn’t know anyone and everyone knew me,” said
the actress.
A Gallup Poll who asked 400 men what woman they
would most like to spend an evening with finds First
Lady Nancy Reagan on top Actresses Heather
Locklear and Raquel Welch tied for second.
The nation’s fertility rate dipped to a new low last year, with fewer than 65 births
recorded per 1,000 women of childbearing age, according to the Census Bureau.
The 1986 general fertility rate was 64.9 meaning there were 64.9 live births for

every 1,000 women age 15 to 44. The general fertility rate peaked in 1957 at
122.7 births per 1,000 women in the 15-44 age group.
Technology - The Justice Department, citing potential misleading advertising,
orders the seven regional Bell telephone companies to stop promoting their credit
cards for long distance. Why? Because calls made on either card are routed over
the AT&T network, even if the regional firm’s customer subscribes to another
communications company for long distance service. The seven regional
companies, commonly called “Baby Bells,” were created in 1984 with the
dismantling of AT&T. Since the breakup, AT&T and the regional companies have
issued card with the same customer identification number.
Sports - NBA championship - It’s going to game 6 as the Celitcs beat the
Lakers 123 to 108.
Wayne Gretzky who led Edmonton Oilers to
their third Stanley Cup in four seasons, wins the
Hart Trophy given to the NHL’s Most Valuable
Player, for a record eighth consecutive time.
Music news - Fox’s ‘The Late Show” boots
Frank Zappa from his schedule stint as guest
host. Producer John Scura says, “Every cell in
my body is telling me not to do this show.”
“I Want Your Sex” by George Michael and taken
from the Beverly Hills Cop II” soundtrack, has
three versions, some more tamed for radio play.
And, MTV rejected the first video cut of the song
- to racy. The original features a nude couple
embracing, a half-naked androgynous girl and lots of Madonna-lingerie-clad girls.
Speaking of Madonna - she’s in the middle of her “Who’s that Girl” world tour
’87.
Entertainment news -
Passing - Actress Geraldine Page - a best actress Oscar-winner last year in
“The Trip to Bountiful.” She was 62.

Former “Today” show producer Steve Friedman is named president of CTG
Entertainment. Word is, there’s a project being started with newspaper company
Gannett. Let’s see.
Cracks in the “Donahue” wall? - KCNC-TV
Denver is the first station among 200 Phil
“Donahue ” outlets to drop the program
because of content. But, WBBM-TV in Chicago
is dropping the show because of poor ratings.
Cable News Network’s daily coverage of the
Iran-contra hearings - had that channel’s top
ratings during Fawn Hall’s testimony - about
1.3 million homes.
