Lawrence Welk
Show
-

years, quits, citing Welk’s ironhanded rule over his
performers, saying it took the fizz out of her. Also, Tiny
Little, his ragtime piano man, said he could make more in
his spare time than the $150 a week Welk pays him. Said
Ms Lion, “Lawrence is so hard to work for now. He lacks
consideration and there are no exceptions in his book.
Since he has let different members of the band go, things
aren’t like they used to be. People liked the show
because of our relaxed feeling. It isn’t that way any
more.” Welk said she tried to be too sexy, “And I will not
stand for such things.”
In February, Welk’s clarinet virtuoso Pete Fountain, casting Welk in the role of an
over-strict parent, quit the band and went back to New Orleans.
Welk said Tiny Little wanted to front a five-
piece band on the show, but Welk didn’t like
the idea.
