45,000 American and South Korean troops counterattack the Communists along
the Korean central front bulge in the biggest allied attack in several years.
The Russians send about 300 tanks back to East Berlin to choke off a new wave
of anti-Communist strikes before they erupt into another revolt like the one last
month.
End to Korean War - Communist truce
negotiators announce that they are ready
to sign the armistice on the basis of U.N.
promises that South Korea will honor it.
The Reds propose that armistice
negotiators begin “immediately” to
discuss preparations for the truce-signing
ceremony.
Sixteen persons are condemned to
prison in Dresden in the larges show trial
of East German rebels held by the
Communists.
Unemployment in the U.S. reaches the
lowest point since WWII - at about 1.7
million workers out of work, compared with 3.1 million in 1950.
Third National Jamboree - Boy Scouts pour in from all parts of the country and
other countries to a Newport Beach (CA) Jamboree. Some 50,000 are expected
to attend the event.
Entertainment news - Bela Lugoisi (70) is divorced by his fourth wife, Mrs. Lillian
A. Lugosi (41) who complained that his “unfounded jealousy” prompted him to
keep her “under his thumb 24 hours a day.”

Television news -
Duncan Renaldo’s
accident will be shown on “Cisco
Kid” this week. The accident occurred last June when a
“villain” rolled a 65-pound paper mache “boulder” off a
cliff during the shooting of the TV series. The boulder,
was suppose to miss Renaldo, but hit him square on
the top of his head, breaking his neck. He’s still
incapacitated.
UHF problems - Difficulties in securing network
affiliation and problems of conversion of VHF TV sets are causing more UHF
applicants to turn in their construction permits, following the surrender of the first
one - WROV-TV Roanoke, VA. They are - WWOD - Lynchburg, VA and WHHH
in Warren, Ohio.

CBS-TV says it is planning an ambitious children’s block of programming for the
fall from 11am to 2pm on Saturdays and 11am to 1pm on Sundays. CBS is
already broadcasting such shows as “The Big Top,” “Lone Ranger” and “Rod
Brown.”

- A new 212-Ft tower being constructed for station WLIB New York
(1190), tears itself lose from its base and crashes in Queens, its tip missing by

ten feet, about sixty children in a housing project playground. The falling twoer
demolished a parked car and damaged three other autos and injujred slighty five
persons on the street. The tower was supposed to go into service on August 1.
