A man roams through four floors of a high-rise building in the San Francisco
financial district, killing 8 and injuring 6 before he killed himself.
The U.S, Canada, Japan and the EC reach an agreement to bring about a large
reduction in tariffs in the history of trade negotiations. President Clinton says it’s
a good move, because import restrictions lowered the standard of living in both
the U.S. and Japan.
A blimp crashes onto the roof of a mid-Manhattan apartment. Both the pilot and
co-pilot were rescued.
The Ukrainian Parliament clams legal ownership of all former Soviet nuclear
weapons on its soil, ruling out early ratification of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation
Treaty.
Entertainment - MTV is getting into the
movie business. “ Joe’s Apartment ” is
based on the animated MTV short about
a young man and his dirty apartment.
Whitney Houston sues the New York
Post for an article saying she overdosed
on diet pills. The suit is for $60 million.
Roger Clinton, brother of the President, is cast in his second movie role. Besides
his appearance in “National Lampoon’s Last Resort” - the younger Clinton will
appear as Mayor Bubba in “Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings.” He also writes and
sings the movie’s theme song.
She’s the most famous gay woman in the
United States - k.d. Lang . She’s interviewed in
the August issue of Vanity Fair where she talks
about her sexuality. “I don’t know how to use
femininity as a powerful tool. I use my
sexuality, but I eliminate the gender from it. I
hesitate to use the word androgynous,
because it’s overused and misunderstood, but
androgyny to me is making your sexuality
available, through your art, to everyone. Like
Elvis, like Mick Jagger, like Annie Lennox or
Marlene Dietrich - using the power of both the

for his portrayal of Herman Munster in “The Munsters.”
