In Miami, NOW pushes Democratic presidential
contender Walter Mondale to choose
Geraldine
Ferraro
as his running mate in November. “Run
with a woman, win with a woman” was heard as
Mondale spoke to 1200 attending the National
Organization for Woman convention. NOW
President Judy Goldsmith said of the event - “We
aren’t saying, “If there isn’t a woman, we won’t
play... if there isn’t a woman, we won’t win.”
The Supreme Court rules that government may
lawfully deny loans, grants or other federal educational aid to young male college
students who have failed to register for the draft. Draft registration was
reinstituted by President Carter in 1980. All male citizens and resident aliens are
required to register within 30 days of their 18th birthday.
A woman wandered into two homes in the Kennedy family compound and fell
asleep naked in Pat Lawford’s bed. Linda Tatum , a Kennedy family friend,
initially walked into the home of Rose Kennedy shortly after midnight Saturday
and requested medical help and somehow wound-up in the bed of Lawford. She
was taken to the hospital by police, released and returned to the home of Ethel
Kennedy, banging and shouting at the door. She was arrested on a breaking
and entering charge
A surging economy slashes the unemployment rate to 7.1% - the best in 4 years.
The Allan Thicke show “Thicke Of The Night” is cancelled.
At the same time, Thicke’s wife,
Gloria Loring
, files suit to
dissolve their 13-year marriage. Loring stars on NBC’s
“Days Of Our Lives.”
The Jackson’s “Victory Tour” begins in Kansas City. It’s the
most anticipated tour since the Beatles. Michael Jackson
said that all the money he makes from the series would be
donated to charity.
