Music news - Tony Basil says her hit
“Mickey” was re-written from a song
called “Kitty.” “It was a teeny-bopper

sassy, smart-alecky lyrics. All I had to do
was change the name from ‘Kitty’ to
‘Mickey’ and write a cheerleader riff for it,
the part that goes, ‘Oh Mickey, you’re so
fine, you blow my mind.’” Ms. Basil has
been around. She actually recorded for
A&M Records back in 1967 - a single
called “Breakaway.” She’s following up

From A to Z.” “Mickey” was an import
only, when KROQ Los Angeles began
playing it. Chrysalis Records saw the hit potential and the rest is pop history.
