Reaching out to North Korea, President Bush told reporters he might consider
food and fuel aid and a “bold initiative” to improve relations with the Pyongyang
regime - if it gives up its nuclear weapons program.
U.N. weapons inspectors in Iraq discover 11
empty chemical warheads at an arms depot south
of Baghdad, their most significant find in nearly
two months of searching for an illegal arsenal.
President Bush said that he was “sick and tired” if
Iraq’s failure to cooperate with the United Nations
on disarmament and warned that “time is running
out.”
In a broad challenge to the Bush administration’s
foreign policy, French Foreign Minister Dominique
de Villepin said that France would not yet approve the use of force against Iraq
and cautioned that U.N. handling of Baghdad would set a precedent for North
Korea and the Middle East.
Eight backcountry skiers from the U.S. are killed and two injured after an
avalanche crashes down a mountainside in eastern British Columbia.
K-Mart announces it is shutting down 326 stores - in a plan to emerge from
chapter 11 bankruptcies.
“MoveOn.Org” begins an anti-war ad on television this week. The ads raise the
specter of nuclear war if the United States attacks Iraq and shows a mushroom
cloud aimed at stirring controversy and galvanizing public opinion. “MoveOn.org”
was formed during the Clinton impeachment trial, in an effort to get Congress to
“move-on” and has since moved to other issues. Some say it is very left in its
bent.
Al-Jazeera
- the Arab satellite television channel, signs
an agreement with the BBC for the exchange of news
stories. Al-Jazeera, an independent channel, began
broadcasting in 1996 and is based out of the tiny gulf Arab
state of Qatar.

Lisa Marie Presley is set to release her first album
- “To Whom It May Concern” April 8. She wrote
most of the songs.
Tom Cruise wins a $10 million judgment against a
porn actor (Chad Slater) who allegedly told a
French magazine that the two men had a
homosexual affair that broke up Cruise’s 10-year
marriage to Nicole Kidman.
The fifth Harry Potter book is scheduled to be published on June 21. The
announcement follows almost two years of publication date push-backs and
countless articles speculating on the future of the publishing houses and film
studios linked to the series.
Television news - Fox-TV says it will begin to premiere new shows in the
summer, in the hopes of jumping on rivals. Will others follow?
After a rash of low-rated shows, ABC-TV says it’s going for a quick fix and will
add a number of reality shows - most with a thematic emphasis on appearance.
One, from the producer of “The Bachelor” is titled “Are You Hot: The Search For
America’s Sexiest People.” Another project, “All American Girl” - is a kind of
pageant with young woman competing on the basis of beauty, intellect and skills.
Fox-TV renews “
The Simpsons
” for two more years,
easily making it the longest-running U.S. television
comedy at 16 seasons.
Music news - Inflating airplay? There’s some
controversy in the radio world with Mariah Carey’s
new single “Through The Rain.” Island Def Jam
Music bought radio spots featuring some 53 seconds
of the song. Problem was/is, computers monitoring
airplay gave the commercials credit for a full spin of
the song, giving it momentum for airplay, when in fact, radio stations weren’t
playing the song as much.

be filling-in for Rick Dees on his morning show from time-
to-time over KIIS-FM in Los Angeles. Dees has never had
a live replacement - instead, opting to run voice tracks
during vacations and sick days. Is Seacrest being
groomed to take Dees’ place on KIIS-FM? Currently
Seacrest holds afternoons on Star 98.7 in Los Angeles.
