In Moscow - President Clinton and President Boris N. Yeltsin conclude a two-day
meeting which emphasized Russia’s progress on their new free market economy.
Syrian President Hafez Assad meets with President Clinton and for the first time,
says he would like normal relations with Israel.
A 6.6 magnitude earthquake hits the Los
Angeles area. The pre-dawn quake killed
at least 33, flattened freeways and
buildings and sent commuters on
alternative routes. Authorities say they’ll
be traffic nightmares for months. 15 are
dead in a collapsed Northridge
apartment. Another aftershock hit better
than a 5 on the Richter scale.
Shane Minoaka Stant, the man suspected of carrying out the attack on Olympic
figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, surrenders to police in Arizona.
Tonya Harding’s hold on a berth in next month’s Winter Olympics may be less
than secure, as U.S. Olympic Committee officials contemplate whether it would
be in the best interest of other athletes to remove her from the team.

Television news - Appearing on ABC’s “Good
Morning America” - Chevy Chase said he was
stunned that he was dropped from his Fox talk
show after just 5 ½ weeks.
Samsung Electronics is ordered by a judge to pay Vanna White $403,000 in
damages for running an ad featuring a robot in her likeness, on a so-called
“Wheel of Fortune” set.
Radio news - John Lander is the new morning man at Z-100 New York. His team
includes sidekick Patty Steele and producer Elliott Segal, both who had been
with him at Eagle 106 (WEGX) Philadelphia.

KLOS Los Angeles moves syndicated Greaseman from nights to late nights.
Westwood One announces it is syndicating the Broke Daniels and Roberta Gale
show, which now airs on New Jersey 101.5. Daniels was once in a rock band
and Gale was a stand-up comedian.
