sweeping East-West arms reduction
accord. Both voice optimism about the
future of U.S-Russian ties.
Technology - Intel vaults to the No. 1 chipmaker, powered by sales of its 386
and 486 computer chips. Intel leaps past Japan’s NEC and Toshiba. IBM is still
the #1 PC maker, but its margin is smaller.

Television news - MTV features a “Ren & Stimpy” marathon. All 12 episodes will
be shown, plus a new one!
Two NBC Wednesday night shows to move - NBC its moving “Seinfeld” to
Thursday nights beginning in February. Seinfeld and “Mad About You” are being
trounced by ABC’s comedy block of “Home Improvement” and “Coach.” At the
same time, NBC says it is moving the new comedy “Mad About You” from
Wednesday to Saturday night.
NBC Thursdays - “A Different World” and “Out All Night” will temporarily leave
NBC’s Thursday night line-up. Cheers will air twice on Thursdays and Wings will
shift an hour earlier.
Jamie Kellner is leaving Fox-TV to start his own business.
Kellner is credited with giving Fox-TV its current status in the
business.

ESPN to get competition as NBC and Cablevision (owners of SportsChannel
America) and Liberty Media (PrimeNetwork) form Prime SportsChannels
Networks to operate both channels.
Music news - Passing - John Birks (Dizzy)
Gillespie - Jazz Trumpeter legend. He was
75.
Courtney Love sues her Los Angeles doctor,
charging they released improper information
about her alleged heroin treatment while she
was pregnant.
Radio news - For the first time in any major
market - a Spanish language station hits #1 in
the overall ratings as KLAX-FM (97.9) Los
Angeles gets a 5.3 Arbitron rating. KOST-FM is
#2 at 5.1, KPWR-FM gets a 5.1 and KRTH
(oldies) with a 4.4.
