A man who walked into a police station and confessed
to shooting four teens in a New York City subway,
waves extradition, saying he will return voluntarily to
New York to face attempted murder charges. Bernhard
Hugo Goetz (37), dubbed the “subway vigilante,”
nodded his head “yes” during a brief arraignment in
Concord (NH) District Court. Earlier, Goetz had said he
would fight extradition to New York. He was ordered
held without bail.
House Democrats vote to remove 80-year-old Rep Melvin Price as chairman of
the House Armed Services Committee, then install Re. Les Aspin.
Interior secretary William P. Clark submits his resignation to President Reagan.
He says he wants to return to his ranch in California by March.
The IRS proposes that employers begin withholding money next summer from
the paychecks of employees who receive such fringe benefits as the use of
company cars and company aircraft.

Sports - AT&T Challenge of Champions in Las Vegas - John
McEnroe beat Jimmy Connors. McEnroe will meet Guillermo
Vilas in his next round. Winner will get $200,000.
Music news -
Ron Wood (37) of the Rolling Stones marries his longtime
girlfriend model Jo Howard (29). They have two children -
Leah (6) and Tyrone (16).
After car crash - Drummer Rick Allen of Def Leppard is
improving but still unconscious after surgery to reattach his
severed left arm and doctors don’t know if he’ll drum again.

Week of January 1, 1985
Singer Tom Rush is selling his own records now by his
own mail order record company. The album, titled “New
Year” on the New Light label, has sold 15,000 copies and
Rush says he has made about a $44,000 profit so far. He
was dropped from Columbia about 10 years ago.
Television news -
ABC’s 20/20 does a piece on the McMartin preschool
molestation case. The segment seems to support the case
against school director Virginia McMartin and six teachers facing more than 200
molestation charges involving 42 children.
