In Korea war news, an operational summary from
General Macarthur says that 31 Chinese and North
Korean divisions have lined up across Korea and are
still “unimpaired” despite heavy losses and broken
supply lines.
The Toy Manufacturers of the U.S.A say that toy
guns, tanks, jet planes, walkie-talkies and bathtub
navies are in huge demand. It’s the first time since
1946. Cowboy toys are still number 1.
Co-pilot Joseph Dowd of Dallas is found dead 30
miles north of Amarillo after stumbling though a rear
door of a Pioneer Airlines plane. The plane’s Captain
said that just after takeoff from Amarillo, a warning light indicated an unlatched
rear door and sent Dowd back to check it out. The plane was at 4000 feet when
the incident happened.
Dies - Sir George Oliver Colthurst (68) owner of the Blarney Stone at Blarney
Castle - County Cork, Ireland.
In Toronto, 24 year-old Marie Lopes is
charged with murder after stabbing her
husband in their basement apartment.
The two quarreled over the popular song
“The Thing” by Phil Harris. The two were
arguing over what “the thing” was in the
song. Harris doesn’t say what it is and
the two couldn’t agree between them.
Fireman, fighting a fire on a dairy farm
near Santa Barbara, CA had a tough-
time putting it out. Frenzied flaming rats
kept running into other haystacks, setting
them on fire. Running from one bale to
another, they kept spreading the flames.
The fire took 10 hours to control.

Newspaper columnist and radio commentator Drew Pierson sues Senator
Joseph McCarthy for $600 thousand including $250 thousand for what he said
was a physical attack in December and $350 thousand for a libelous attack made
in a 37 page report the same month.
The defense department approves a program to make sure the Army gets its
share of high IQ men. The program could begin in several weeks.
At the Korean War - Sgt Clovis Taylor bags a Chinese red by gobbling like a
turkey. When a curious Red raised his head, Taylor shot him. Recently, the
Chinese have been using similar tactics including blowing bugles and whistles to
distract American GI’s.
In for men at a New York Fashion show - Tweed sports coats with gray flannel
trousers.
General Motors announces that 434,000 of its workers will get a 5-cent hourly
pay raise. The new scale begins March 1 for hourly workers and June 1 for their
salaried counterparts.
Go to your RCA dealer to see a demonstration of one
of their radios, phonos or TV’s and receive replicas of
(Nipper the dog) salt and pepper china figures. Nipper
is the world famous RCA Victor trademark dog.
RCA makes its tricolor color picture tube available to
the rest of the television industry. The tube produces full
color images directly on its face and doesn’t require any
moving parts, unlike CBS’s color system which requires
a rotating wheel to generate
colors.

Hollywood news - On the eve of the premier for
“Bedtime For Bonzo,” Tamba the chimp , who
stars as Bonzo, dies when smoke from a fire next
door to his Quonset hut smothers the star and
other animal movie actors. Fireman worked on
Tamba for over 30 minutes but failed to resuscitate
him. The Hollywood premier this week was to
include Tamba, other animals and the ASPCA.
Ronald Reagan could not be reached for
comment.
Hasn’t happened yet - So far, major stars such as
Bob Hope, Jack Benny and Bing Crosby have far
better acceptance on radio than television. Crosby
is still riding wide and handsome on radio and has
remained aloof from TV. Benny is up for four TV appearances, but his radio show
is still tops.

got hers as the best dramatic actress for
Sunset Blvd and Ferrer for best dramatic
actor in “Cyrano de Bergerac.” Best
performance by an actor in a Musical -
Fred Astaire for Three Little Words, Best
actress in a musical - Judy Holliday for
“Born Yesterday.” Best supporting
actor/actress: Edmund Gwenn in Mister
880/Josephine Hull in Harvey.
Television news - KTSL (channel 2) in Los
Angeles goes full-time CBS this week. The
network was carried on KTTV (channel 11)
when CBS co-owned the station with the
Los Angeles Times. CBS purchased KTSL
from Don Lee in December.
Hey kids - don’t miss Panhandle Pete and Jennifer on NBC-TV
Buster Crabbe files suit claiming $500,000 in damages for
unauthorized showings of his film shorts. Defendants
include CBS, NBC, ABC and WPIX-TV in New York. Crabbe
claims that showings of his westerns on TV without his
consent is illegal and violation of his rights to privacy.
Radio news - WNEW’s morning ratings are way up -
thanks to the funny antics of Gene Klavin and Dee Finch.
It’s a radio show many stations are trying to copy.
Dezi Arnaz hosts “Your Tropical Trip” an audience
participation show featuring Latin-American music on CBS radio.
The Uncle Wip program, heard over WIP radio (610) in
Philadelphia is gone after 29 years. Uncle Wip will still
be featured over WFIL-TV three times a week.
Advertising costs - Cost per thousand - WINS radio in
New York is charging advertisers 44cents per thousand
in its advertising. In a trade ad, WINS says, “WINS spots
