Sen. Bob Kerrey scores a strong victory in South
Dakota’s Democratic primary with George Bush running
unopposed on the Republican side. Democratic runners-
up: - Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin second and Arkansas Gov
Bill Clinton third.
36,000 attend the closing ceremonies at the XVI Winter
Olympic games in Albertville, France.
White supremacist Tom Metzger, originally sentenced to
six months in jail is granted an early release to be with
his critically ill wife who has lung cancer. Metzger was
sentenced for his part in a 1983 cross burning.
Daihatsu announces that it will end production and export of passenger cars for
the U.S market later this year. Daihatsu American Inc will continue operating as a
parts distributor and will provide service and support services.
The Navy says it will stop recruiting Filipino nationals at the end of the year. Tens
of thousands of Filipinos have served in the Navy since the end of the Spanish-
American War, when the Philippines became a U.S. colony.

An FDA advisory panel rejects an
outright ban on silicone gel breast
implants, recommending
significant restrictions and urged
that the devices be allowed for reconstructive surgery.
Jenny Jones (45) goes public on her problems with breast
implants - dedicating a show on the subject. Jones, who
suffered for 11 years said: “I want something good to come
out of this and if it’s to be the spokesperson against breast
implants, then I will. My intent is to stop woman from ever
having them.”

Levi Strauss of San Francisco, the world’s largest clothing manufacturer, says it
will offer health benefits to unmarried partners of U.S. employees. It’s the largest
domestic company to do so.
Passing - actor Dick York - best known as the first
Darrin Stephens in “Bewitched” on television. Spent his last
years redistributing surplus goods to the homeless through
his Acting for Life program. York suffered for years with
emphysema and battled a degenerative spine which he first
injured on the set of the Gary Cooper film “They Came to
Cordura” in 1958. The injury lead to the actor’s addiction to
pain killers and sleeping pills, which eventually cost him his
role on the popular comedy series.
Actress Tracy Gold (22) who took time off the show “Growing Pains” to
recuperate from the eating disorder anorexia nervosa returns to the set this
week.
