attacked by Israeli helicopter gunships.
New Hampshire primary - President Bush wins but by a
closer margin than expected, at 58-40% over Buchanan .
A federal advisory panel recommends significant restrictions on silicon gel breast
implants for cosmetic reasons. They advice restriction of cosmetic use, while
allowing for reconstructive surgery.
Olympics - America defeats France in hockey 4-1.
Bonnie Blair receives her second gold medal - this one for the 1,000-meter race.
Martina Navratilova becomes tennis’ all-time singles
titles leader. She beat Jana Novotna of Czechoslovakia
in the final of the Virginia Slims of Chicago.
Technology - IBM announces 13 new models in its
minicomputer line. The most powerful will include a
memory chip with 16 Megs.

MTV featured an hour-long special featuring

this weekend. “Wayne’s World” is a
popular Saturday Night Live skit.
Ted Turner announces a cartoon
cable channel beginning October 1.
Tentatively named “Cartoon Channel”
is will air cartoons from Turner’s
Hanna-Barbera library.
CBS says it is getting NBC’s “In The
Heat of the Night” next season. The
network says it will present the show
as six two-hour movies.

Many believe it’s the good chemistry between Katy Couric and Bryant Gumbel.
NBC is preparing for life after “Cosby” as negotiations for another year of
“Cheers” have begun.
Music news - Michael Jackson cuts short his five-nation African tour after police
attacked fans in Gabon, Tanzania and the Ivory Coast. Also, reports say Jackson
kept touching his nose throughout his performances.
Paula Abdul gets hit with another suit - this time by studio singer Yvetter Marine
who claims she sang lead vocals with Abdul on several of her hits.
Vince Neil is out as lead singer of
Motley Crue. Band members say Neil got
caught-up in racecar driving and they
don’t believe he shared their passion and
direction. Mick Mars, Tommy Lee and
Nikki Sixx are looking.
Janet Jackson agrees to pay producers
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis a record-
setting $3 million to
produce and co-write
her first Virgin-Records
album. Virgin payed Ms.
Jackson some $40
million about a year ago
and some say she
needs these guys. Both
produced her mega-hit albums “Control” and “Rhythm Nation:
1814.”
