Israeli planes hoot down two MIG-21 interceptor fighters in a dogfight over the
Nile in Egypt.
President Nixon unveils a 37-point program aimed at purifying rivers and lakes,
cleaning up smog and the landscape. It calls for smog-free cars, purified lakes
and an increase in parklands.
The federal government charges 11 companies with polluting waters in the
Chicago area, The suite was filed three days after President Nixon visited the city
and promised a cleanup of Lake Michigan.
Thousands of Egyptians carry banners through the streets of Cairo demanding
vengeance for the Israeli air raid that killed 70 factory workers. They accused the
U.S. collaborating with Israel. The plant was 17 north of Cairo.

the 1968 Democratic
National Convention.
The prosecution
accused the
defendants of seeking
to create a “National
Liberation Front” or
revolutionary force
within the United
States by provoking violence at the convention. The defendants are - Abbie
Hofman (32); Jerry Rubin (31); Thomas Hayden (30), Rennie Davis (29);
Dellinger (55); Lee Weiner (32) and John Froines (31). If convicted - each man
faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of $20,000.
After five weeks of court-imposed school integration in about 30 Mississippi
school districts, whites and blacks agree it’s a failure.

Tallahassee - U.S. Circuit Court Judge G. Harold Carswell declines any comment
“whatsoever” on the disclosure that he had signed a warranty deed carrying
forward a white-only clause in a 1966 land sale.
Some American soldiers on rest and recreation leave in Australia are buying wigs
to disguise their crew cuts. They just want some hair to look like the crowd. False
sideburns and mustaches also are popular with servicemen in Sydney. Cost for a
wig - about $50.
One out of five persons answering a survey on violence say there are situations
they can imagine in which they would approve of a husband slapping a wife’s
face.

Goodbye Brass - Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass have disbanded and all
concert dates have been canceled. Reasons seem to be Herb Alpert’s desire to
stay in California to produce records for A&M.
Television news -
“The Return of the Smothers Brothers” on NBC this Monday will be dedicated to
Constitutional rights on which the brothers stand and on which NBC will not even
cautiously tread. It’s their first time on TV since CBS dumped them last fall. Will
they still have the magic? Chad Stuart of “Chad and Jeremy” is musical director.

witness in the Chicago 7 conspiracy trial. On
Dick’s show, she was refused permission to
sing the antiwar protest song “Where Have All
the Flowers Gone?” and some political
comments were edited. She appealed to the
FCC for an investigation.
