The Kremlin rejects a U.S proposal for a televised exchange of New Year’s
greetings by President Reagan and Mikhail s. Gorbachev saying superpower
relations are too strained to repeat 1986’s good-will messages.
The Justice Department says it has reached confidential, out-of-court settlements

Another big MTV contest giveaway - MTV has put up a 100-acre tract of rural
Wheeler County (Texas) as the first prize for winning postcard drawn in the
music channel’s latest contest. MTV gave away $1 million in 1985 and sent
Prince to Sheridan, Wyoming to give the winner of this year’s contest a private
screening of his new movie “Under the Cherry Moon.”
