In a videotaped message, hostage

Anderson
(40) - an American journalist says he is well
and pleads with the government to do what it can to
free him. Anderson was kidnapped by Muslim
extremists in West Beirut on March 16, 1985. He is the
longest-held hostage in Lebanon. “Mr. President, I say
again this cannot continue. This is my third Christmas
as a hostage. Others have been held nearly has long.
Surely it’s enough? It has to be. Our condition is not
great. There’s a limit for how long we can last and
some of us are approaching their limit very rapidly.” In
addition to Anderson, there are seven other Americans and at least 12 other
foreigners known to be held captive. Anderson was on assignment for the
Associated Press when he was captured.
In Arkansas - suspect R. Gene Simmons (47) is ordered held without bond and
ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation in one of the worst killing sprees this
decade. 16 bodies have been found in an Ozark Mountain killing spree -
including 14 from one family.
The Commerce Department says the barometer of economic trends took a
plunge in November - falling 1.7% - a drop a little bigger then expected. Most of it
was due to the stock market crash at the end of the month - and it’s the largest
plunge in six years.

Fromme
(39), who was discovered missing from her room at
the Alderson Federal Prison for Woman in West Virginia.
Fromme is serving a life term for attempting to assassinate
President Ford in 1975. She is described as a follower of
convicted murderer Charles Mason.
Later on this week - Lynette Fromme is recaptured in a remote
area two miles south of the prison. She offered no resistance.
Mikhail Gorbachev is named Time magazine’s 61st man of
the year. “A symbol of hope for a new kind of Soviet Union.”
In Washington - a woman missing for seven days is found at
the Lord & Taylor’s store in which she was dropped off.
Brigitte Pierre (71) was found in a little -used stairway and

told her rescuers she was waiting for her husband. Her husband says she was
becoming very forgetful and that recently, she was found to be suffering from
shrinkage of the brain. She’s being treated for dehydration.
