President Eisenhower spends a quiet, but merry Christmas at home in the White
House with his immediate family. The Chief Executive appearing rested after his
grueling trip to the Paris NATO conference, devoted the early part of the day to
“just taking it easy.”
President Eisenhower approves a four-year billion dollar program of Federal aid
to education designed mainly to bring the country abreast of Russia in the
production of scientists.
Communist East Germany imposes travel restrictions on allied civilians including
diplomats traveling in and out of Berlin. And effective Jan. 1, travelers must have
East German instead of Soviet visas.

Passing - Norma Talmadge , movie star of the
1920’s. She was 60.
Marry - Singers Steve Lawrence (21) and Eydie
Gorme (25). They met four years ago when they
were tamed on the
Steve Allen Tonight
television show.
Television news -
Roller Derby returns
to New York TV
after 3 years.
WABC-TV is now the new home. On the first
broadcast - Toughie Brasuhn and Gerry Murray.
Jack Narz is named host of “Dotto,” the latest TV
quiz show. The daytime show starts January 6 on
CBS.

White, the Mello Larks, Al Morgan, Teddi King, the Dukes of Dixieland Bob Hahn
and Larry Retlinger. DJ Howard Miller is the emcee.

Big changes in Los Angeles radio (see ads)
KABC hires four new DJ’s as the station moves to a personality DJ emphasis
with news. All from out of town. The four are:
John Trotter from Tulsa OK
Bob Cole from El Paso
Art Nelson from Dallas
Don MacKinnon from Des Moines
KABC will retain Jack Rourke.
What’s interesting is - KFWB is about to make big changes to its line-up and
sound. Chuck Blore from KELP El Paso (same station as Bob Cole above) has
been hired as the program director. Both stations are using “Color” in their
descriptions.
