Dr. Koop Lifecare Corp. says its DrKoop.com health website will shut down. It
was founded in 1998 by former surgeon general C. Everett Koop. It will file for
chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Sports -
The Boston Red Sox are sold for a record $660-million to a group led by Florida
Marlin owner John Henry and former sand Diego Padre owner Tom Werner.
The New York Mets trade outfielder Tsyoshi Shinjo and infielder Desi Relaford to
the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Shawn Estes.
Chick Hearn
- the announcer for
the Los Angeles Lakers - who has
not missed a game since he began
in 36 years - is out for six weeks
after heart surgery. Hearn has
announced 3,338 consecutive Laker
games either on radio or TV.
Disney and the NBA reach an
agreement on a new national TV
contract in which Disney, which
owns ABC and ESPN will pay the
league an average of $400 million
per year.

“Today” show co-anchor Katie Couric signs a new contract that will make her the
highest paid personality in TV news - around $15 million per year.
On “Saturday Night Live” this week - Ellen DeGeneres hosts with musical guest
No Doubt.
NBC will become the first broadcaster to air hard liquor ads. Look for the first - a
Smirnoff vodka ad this weekend.
