President-elect Eisenhower’s Cabinet is
completed with the announcement that
he has designated GOP Party Official
Sinclair Weeks for Secretary of
Commerce and Labor Leader Martin
Durkin for Secretary of labor.
A transatlantic Cuban airliner explodes after it takes of for Havana, from Hamilton
Bermuda. 4 of the 41 persons on board were saved.
After a three-day tour of Korea, President-elect
Eisenhower flies to Guam. He left a promise with
allied armies in Korea that “much will be done” to
improve their position.
Leaders of both major parties in Congress estimate
the recent Presidential campaign may have cost as
much as $100 million or $1.65 per vote.
May have a Korea solution? In New York, Gen.
Douglas MacArthur tells reporters “There is a clear
and definite solution to the Korean conflict” but didn’t
disclose any specifics. “Our President-elect has gone
there to search of an honorable end to so tragic a
slaughter and all Americans join in prayer that he may safely pass through the
hazards involved and accomplish his self-appointed task with vision and
wisdom.”
President-elect Eisenhower, on board the USS Helena (en route to Hawaii from
Guam) will rendezvous with Secretary of State designate John Foster Dulles at
Wake Island. They’ll hold a series of conferences to mold the administration’s
policy toward Korea and the entire Far East.

George W. Jorgensen Jr. - a 26-year-old who served two years in the Army
during the war and was honorably discharged has been transformed by medical
science into a normal, happy beautiful woman, according to the New York News.
In a long series of treatments done in Denmark, George is now Christine . In a
letter to his parents he/she said,
“I have changed. But I want you to know that
the real me has not changed. I am still the same old Brud (nickname) but my
dears, nature made the mistake which I have had corrected and now I am your
daughter.” George is originally from the Bronx.
The birth of a baby is broadcast over the NBC-TV network. Gordon Campbell
Kerr of Denver was born by caesarian section - an operation that takes the baby
from the mother. A pharmaceutical firm sponsored the event during an American
Medical Association meeting.
Brooklyn Dodger second baseman Jackie Robinson
charges the New York Yankees with being prejudiced
against members of his race. Interviewed on the NBC-TV
program “Youth Wants To Know,” whether or not he
thought there was prejudice, Robinson stated he believed
so, and that he was referring to the club executives, not
the players.
