President Nixon and Mexican President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz agree to principles
for the settlement of all outstanding Rio Grande River boundary problems.

subjected to repeated skin
searches; he is not allowed to
properly consult with his attorney;
his mail is kept from him; and he is
denied a pencil and paper in his
cell.
The pill, whose reputation was
damaged in January by U.S.
Senate hearings, is slowly coming
back. More and more women are
selecting intrauterine devices IUD
for birth control.
Technology - IBM settles an
antitrust suit with two small firms - Applied Data Research and Programmatics.
They’ll be paid a total of $1.4 million.
The number of marriages is on the rise and is expected to continue to increase,
according to the Metropolitan Life insurance Co. The number of marriages in the
U.S. rose 4.2% in 1969 to 2.16 million from 2.07 million in 1968.
Ship purposely sunk - The rusting Liberty ship LeBaron Russell Briggs and its
controversial cargo of deadly nerve gas plunges to a grave three miles deep in
the Atlantic - some 282 miles off the coast of Florida. It was sunk by the Navy.
Eddie Fisher files a bankruptcy petition in federal court in San Juan, claiming
debts of $916,000 and assets of $40,000.
Bernice Dolan (37) - A stewardess has charged Eastern Air Lines with
discrimination against women, asserting eastern stewardesses are afraid to gain
as little as one pound above their hiring weight lest they be taken off the payroll.

Technology - new type of car engine - Wallace Minto a Sarasota research
scientist announces the signing of a multimillion dollar contract for mass
production of a pollution-free engine in Datsun autos beginning with the 1973
model year. The engine, powered by gas now used as a cooling agent in
refrigerators and air conditioner, would drive the Datsun 100mph, operate
economically, have a long life and produce “a breathable exhaust.” A
demonstrator is being installed in a Datsun station wagon and is to be delivered
to Tokyo within six months.

CBS will begin “In the Know” - a series of information mini-documentaries for
children on Saturday mornings beginning in September (this was changed to “In
the News”). The feature will air five times each Saturday morning.
