Becoming more and more popular - Tex-Mex or
Tejano and leading the genre is Corpus Christi-based
singer
Selena
. Her album “Amor Prohibido” is well
known and for Selena, music is a family affair. Her dad,
Abraham Quintanilla manages the group, Los Dinos,
which includes sister Suzette and drums and brother
Abe on drums. Husband Chris Perez is the group’s
guitarist. “It’s the younger generation. They’re proud of
their roots. Latinos are more visible. It’s cool to speak
Spanish. In Mexico, they love the Tejano sound. Fans
even welcome you at the airport,” says Selena. She
says she’s been at it for 13 years, when she used to
sing for family gatherings. With local hits and awards,
finally the band was signed by the EMI Latin label in 1989. Selena also has her
own clothing boutique - several in Texas called Selena Etcetera Boutiques. Also,
look for her in her first movie appearance, “Don Carlo and the Centerfold” with
Johnny Depp.

morning stars “The Baka Boys” are
making waves with what some call,
distasteful billboards - where they are
pictured sitting on a toilet, pants down.
Since beginning in February, they’ve
leaped to the #5 morning show in Los
Angeles - at a 4.5 overall share. Previous morning man Jay Thomas left with a
3.8 share, so clearly, these guys are doing much better. A similar billboard-toilet
campaign helped boast the ratings of Dr. Dre and Ed Lover ant New York’s Hot
97 (WQHT).
CD-ROM for radio programs? Global Satellite Networks “Rockline” says it may

along with a visual.
Also, Westwood One says it will do a Larry King CD-ROM series, with each CD
containing 20 questions, photos and biographies of celebrities.
