President Clinton lifts the ban on hiring air traffic controllers fired by former
President Ronald Reagan when they joined an illegal strike.
Deputy White House Counsel Vincent Foster
left behind a ripped-up note saying that he “was
not meant for the job or the spotlight of public life
in Washington. “Here, ruining people is
considered sport,” said Foster who committed
suicide on June 20.
The nation’s unemployment rate edged down in
July - 6.8% - its lowest level in 2 ½ years.
